It appears that the GOP is finally realizing how serious the DNC hack was, but probably not for the reasons Donald Trump had hoped. There was instant suspicion regarding both the timing of the release as well as who was behind it when the 20,000 emails dropped last weekend. Almost immediately fingers were pointed directly at Russia. No other countries were even mentioned.
Now, it appears even the GOP has had enough. The Washington Post is reporting that two dozen Republican national security experts are expected to deliver a letter to Congress on Friday asking for an "immediate investigation into the cyberattack on the Democratic National Committee"
The letter was signed by high level members of both the Reagan and Bush administrations, advisers to John McCain and Mitt Romney and many State Department veterans. The letter states:
This is not a partisan issue but rather an assault on the integrity of the entire American political process...Congress has a responsibility to get to the bottom of this extraordinary breach, not only to determine who was responsible but also to consider the appropriate response...The hacking of a political partys email system by Russian intelligence agencies would, if proven, constitute unprecedented foreign interference in an American presidential campaign."

Loser Donald Trump better not have anything to do with this spying incident. I think Loser Donald is about to learn not to play with the big boys.

(9,904 posts)This will be the next GOP boondoggle to waste time and $$ instead of doing their jobs. I mean just LOOK at the letter and the signers of it below:
Dear Speaker Paul Ryan, Senator Mitch McConnell, Senator Harry Reid, and Representative Nancy Pelosi:
We the undersigned urge the appropriate congressional committees to launch an immediate investigation into the reported Russian cyberattack on the Democratic National Committees computer system. While this is not the first major attack against the United States recall the Chinese break-in to OPMs system and North Koreas against Sony the hacking of a political partys email system by Russian intelligence agencies would, if proven, constitute unprecedented foreign interference in an American presidential campaign.
This is not a partisan issue. The foreign attack was an assault on the integrity of the entire American political process. Instead of focusing on who may have benefited and who was damaged, the investigation should focus on discovering the facts concerning the role of Russian intelligence in the hacking, whether others were involved, and the role of Wikileaks in disseminating the stolen information.
Congress has a responsibility to get to the bottom of this extraordinary breach, not only to determine who was responsible but also to consider the appropriate response. Those responsible for this gross interference in our political process, and those who might contemplate similar moves in the future, need to understand that such actions will have consequences.
Sincerely,
