2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA Bernie supporter bought ClintonKaine.com for $8 in 2011. Now he wants $90,000 for it.
And I thought I did well when I sold a domain name for $1500 in 2003.
"It just made sense to me at the time," he says. "Hillary Clinton was in contention for the nomination, and Tim Kaine was on the vice presidential shortlist."
It cost him $8.
Five years later, Green a 28-year-old "lefty socialist" and ardent Bernie Sanders supporter is demanding $90,000 for the domain name. Until "someone from the Hillary team" forks over the cash, the website will feature a series of comic strips made by Green, about a young witch named "Hillary Potter."

(30,481 posts)One of her greatest assets has always been the foolish attacks against her. How many people are going to go to it in the first place. A bunch of fellow Sanders supporters?
I get a couple of offers a year where people have bought variations of my companies name and want to sell it to me for a foolish amount of money. Not as much as being mentioned here. Guess it's easier than flipping houses. Capitalism is great, ain't it?

I signed over the names, one to John Deere, a few to banks, and a couple to small businesses.
Then, I contacted companies that I thought would make a nice fit and gave the domains to them.
Others, I just let expire for some other domain squatting shithead to try and shakedown someone.
Then, I stopped doing that all together.

The only people who visit it will be going there to see what he puts there, and they've all made up their minds already. Anybody actually seeking information will go to hillaryclinton.com first, and the ad for the official site is still going to come up first in a Google search.

(3,316 posts)I'm a huge Potter head and I hate to see crap like this. I know JKR is filthy rich but she's also damn generous and deserves every Knut she's made.

(22,976 posts)Yeah, a real intellectual socialist, this guy. If it's true that he did turn down an offer of $30,000, well, he's a five-star lunkhead.
