CNN: Latinos disappointed with Clinton VP pick

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/28/politics/latinos-clinton-vp-pick/

(CNN)For many Latinos, 2016 was supposed to be the year they'd see one of their own on the presidential ballot. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio did their best on the Republican side and for a while Hilary Clinton kept their hopes high until she picked Tim Kaine to be her running mate.

"I'm disappointed she didn't pick a Latino," says Arturo Vargas, executive director of the non-partisan National Association of Elected and Appointed Latino Officials, NALEO, which represents more than 6,200 members.

He argues that many well-qualified Latinos have been passed over for the VP spot even after they were interviewed for the job.

At least three Latinos, Housing Secretary Julian Castro, Labor Secretary Tom Perez and California congressman Xavier Becerra met with Clinton during the vetting process.

In 2008 Hillary Clinton ran as a qualified person who happened to be a woman and some think that this was a mistake.

So now she did run as a woman, but for most of us, this was a bonus. As Obama said: no one is more qualified and ready as she is.

All three are good men but Kaine has the adding advantage of a former governor. I think that the common wisdom, that governors make good candidates still holds.

And, if he will bring Virginia to the fold even better.

And CNN is really trying to find things to say bad about our candidate.

The truth is that there were at least a dozen people well qualified for the VP spot, but Hillary could only pick one. I hear the Warren wing was disappointed she didn't pick Warren either (though that would give up a Senate seat to the GOP).

The idea was to excite a growing segment of the population. Register that excitement and get the votes.

I wouldn't say getting trounced in the primary by a racist reality show clown is a "good sign".

Anyway, either one of them would have been awful had they'd won so who gives a fuck about the color of their skin?

designated spoiler now. Castro was odds on favorite months ago,but the landscape has changed,we now have a Bigot as opposition and things change. Was expecting Castro to be the VP,but that was last Winter. Can you just hear Con Man Don if Castro was chosen. You would never hear about issues or ideas,it would all be anti Hispanics and this is what the Rethugs did in 2014 here in the South West. And we got our asses kicked.

Tim Kaine is as close to Latin American as one can get. Plus, he has the experience requisite to the task at hand.

I really like Castro, Becerra, and the others, but Hillary could choose only one. It was her decision. One can either mope about it, or accept it and move on.

Tim Kaine might not have been my choice, but I am still impressed by him. He's one of those people who one has to like. He has charisma.

Whether you agree with the points being made or not is up to you, but the argument is that there is some disappointment that a person of Latino heritage was not chosen as VP.

it does say a lot that unlike even many American Latinos, this man spent years actually living in Latin America, and speaks the language.

And yes, he speaks it better than either Castro Brother.

we talk about how white is seen as the norm and others have to change to fit in.

but in Kaine's case he puts himself into other communities and cultures . he doesn't expect others to change for him but that as an american he has to connect with and acknowledge these other communities which are also american and part of america.

plus many spanish speakers i talked to love it when he speaks in spanish. i don't know spanish and i love it also.

While I like the Castro brothers, Becerra and Perez, I thought along the none of them had enough experience to be VP.

Experience, and being ready to do the job, is far more important then appeasing an ethnic group.
