1972, mcgovern got all of 17 electoral votes
1984, mondale got only 13.
both stuck it out.
trump will get far more electoral votes even in our best realistic case scenario.
aside from the fact that his ego won't let him quit, he can always tell himself he's one hillary "scandal" away from winning.
right up until he loses.

also not clear that the kochs would waste their money. if there is a replacement candidate, it would be very, very hard for them to win.

Hillary's first term. The die hard Trumpsters wont vote for him this go-round. Same goes for Kasich. So who would take one for the team this time?

I think the Khan Affair might just awaken Americans' decency gene (apologies for the mixed metaphor) and brand Trump with eternal opprobrium, much like Joseph McCarthy, eponymous creator of "McCarthyism."
