2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGallup: Trump's GOP convention, speech biggest failure in history of polling
Before 2016, all acceptance speeches get more good/excellents than just ok and poor/terrible combined. Hillary Clinton's falls into that category
Trump is not only the first candidate to achive that, his good excellents don't even exceed the poor/terrible number.

How about the national convention numbers overall--how did they affect voters? Again, EPIC FAILURE for Trump.
Democratic conventions
:
2016
More likely: 45 % Less likely: 41 % No difference/No opinion: 14 % Net (more likely minus less likely): +4 pct. pts.
Republican conventions
:
2016
More likely: 36 % Less likely: 51 % No difference/No opinion: 14 % Net (more likely minus less likely): -15 pct. pts.
How about the parties overall? The Republicans are going to be able to hide from Trump, right?
Wrong!!
Effect of Conventions on Images of the Democratic and Republican Parties
From what you have seen or heard about this week's [Democratic/Republican] convention, do you have a more favorable or a less favorable opinion of the [Democratic/Republican] Party?
2016 Democratic convention
More favorable: 44 % Less favorable: 42 %
2016 Republican convention
More favorable: 35 % Less favorable: 52 %
Trump is a stupid, terrible person leading a stupid, terrible party, and they can't hide it.

(4,311 posts)1. WOW. Holy crap.
I know I'm not going to be able to take a deep breath until this damned election is over, but boy, these kinds of data do make me feel better.

That's because this is the scariest election I have ever seen. I thought the past few were scary but the bar seems to have been raised yet again.

(4,311 posts)4. Trump is the worst presidential candidate I have ever seen.
I truly believe, with no hyperbole, that he could bring us to nuclear war.
