Trump frequently relies on this vague construction both to promote his own products and to air far-fetched conspiracies while distancing himself from the source. He claimed in 2013 that many people have claimed his cologne Success was the best scent, and in early 2015 that so many people have told him he should replace Chuck Todd as the host of NBCs Meet the Press. In May, he used the wording to suggest that there was something very fishy about the suicide of former Clinton administration counsel Vince Foster.
Like his other frequently-used phrase Theres something going on, it suggests an ominous association between two subjects but isnt clearly sourced enough to be discounted for lack of evidence.

(182,769 posts)It sounds like it's referencing something real but it mostly is used to divert the conversation or inject talking points.
The old joke about Fox was that they had people backstage who would be told to "read this" then the host could say "you know, some people are saying...."

(146,286 posts)that Trump is ready to quit the campaign. One source who has knowledge of the Trump campaign, confirmed that to me in an off-the-record statement. A worker in Republican campaigns also intimated that Trump was "laughing all the way to the bank." There's also quiet back-room conversation about Trump planning a long vacation next year in the Greek Islands.
That's how it works.
