Voter registration help needed

Volunteering for local Dems, twice I've gone out in public places trying to register new voters, and twice I've gotten nothing but heatstroke for my efforts... Any ideas or suggestions?

1. Go to places with the largest crowds

Drink plenty of water.

2. A lot depends on where you go. If you go where people are busy

doing something else, they'll be unlikely to stop and talk to you. They're already on a mission to get something done. I've had the best results at community gatherings where people are not going shopping or heading for some event. Labor Day is coming up. There will be opportunities at parks and other venues where some sort of holiday event is happening. It's also community and county fair season in many places, but you have to arrange for space at those in advance.

You really have to catch people who are engaging in some sort of leisure activity that doesn't have a specific focus. That's the easiest place to catch people's attention long enough to get them registered.

5. Excellent... Thanks

So far I've been doing shopping centers and city parks, but for the former folks are on a mission like you said, and for the latter I've discovered that folks typically don't like standing out in the blazing sun talking to some stranger with a clipboard...

7. Bring a friend or get friends to drop by - I know it seems ineffective but people are more likely to

Approach you if you don't have that alone and desperate thing going on. If you can appear positive and engaging by having another to laugh and smile with it helps.

If you can put together a hand out about local issues and votes w clips of news stories make it about civil broader engagement that works too. Empower the voters without buttonholing them and talking too much.

If you can make some stickers - can be fun and nonpartisan and give them out it'll also help your table attract more interest.

Find a shady or breezy spot. Near a flow of people.
Try to plan a blitz of registration the last few weeks it's possible at events or busy commuting spots and let people know about the deadlines.

Good luck and THANKS!
