Donald Trump's immigration speech in Arizona Wednesday night may have undone his chance to win Hispanic voters, with several of his major Latino backers distancing themselves from him as a result of the address and the Clinton campaign jumping to pour resources into the contested the state.

Hillary Clinton's campaign pounced on the turn of events.
"Trump just failed his first foreign test: Diplomacy isn't as easy as it looks," the candidate tweeted. In an email, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta said Trump "didn't just choke" in his meeting with Pena Nieto, "he got beat in the room and lied about it."
After the Phoenix speech, which the campaign called "his darkest speech yet," they launched a six-figure ad buy in Arizona. The campaign plans to air its "Role Models" ad, showing young children apparently watching some of Trump's most inflammatory remarks.

(51,550 posts)Seems to me the only people who liked his speech were the Klan and his base (which obviously overlap).
Not this one, that's for sure. None of my friends either.

(14,563 posts)It appears to have tamped down some of the Hispanic support he has managed to pick up here and there over the last few months and I tend to agree that with TRUE Indy's/moderates it probably did him little good.
But, I think it did two things:
1) Provided the kind of red meat to get some of the people already committed to voting for him, but somewhat less enthusiastically, a little more fired up about him, which always helps to have a little more enthusiasm from supporters.
2) Gave some of the holdouts who believe the democrat is the spawn of the devil who knows he is an abhorrent jackass and to this point have not committed to voting for him some rationale for committing to vote for him. I see this with some of the strident "conservatives" on some of the message boards I post on where they have been steadily saying they were not voting trump while losing their shit over CRIMINAL Hillary, who now are saying they might be able to do their part in saving the world from Hillary by voting Trump.
There ARE a good number of trump voters out there who haven't committed yet - again, Rs with a tweak of humanity to them, but who at the same time have been successfully programmed to think that democrats are pure evil, and Hillary in particular.
And, for Admins - my post history is pretty clear I FULLY support and have defended Hillary and I am posting how these loons think, not what I advocate for in any way.

(14,710 posts)Would tell us there is no strategy at play here. The campaign merely reacted to a softening in the core base. When Limbaugh is mocking him, he reacts.
So they go from one rudder stop to the other without any course plotted. They just look up and decide they need a heading change because the crew demands it.
This is what you get when you let the galley crew tell the bridge where to go.
