2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe problem with the Corporate Media Manufactured Horse Race is that
it gives them room to steal it like they brazenly did in 2000 and (I believe) surreptitiously did in 2004 (I remember you Ken Blackwell).
This is why it is so important not to let them frame the debate. *WHO'S* the outsider? The one who's been investigated by the insiders for over two decades now.
We need to brace ourselves, because it's going to get portrayed as much closer, even if it isn't.
Clinton 2016. Trump 1040.

(14,564 posts)it helps to set the narratives that will used to justify another four years of republicans turning everything into shit.
Its been 6 years since DC has done ANYTHING, literally, because they view government when there is a D POTUS as nothing more than a tool to try to destory that POTUS, and this country enables this shit by either buying into whatever false outrage they gin up or just "blaming both sides" and throwing up their arms and just not paritcipating/voting.

(6,587 posts)an yet they kiss his ass constantly.
Sometimes I think the reason they attack the Dem candidate so hard is because the Dem party & those like us do not raise enough hell about how the media covers these things.
They have been working for a few weeks now to bring Clinton's numbers down. They have focused on emails that nobody cares about except the media & the republican party & at the same time ignored payoffs to attorney generals of states by Trump to drop lawsuits against Trump University. They basically even ignore the fact that Trump refuses to release his tax returns.
It is going to take some yelling for the media to do their job.
Also, now it looks like Trump is going to be able to get up on the debate stage & lie all he wants. Chris Wallace says it is not my job to get to the truth, it is the other candidate's responsibility to challenge lies.

(25,242 posts)failure to call Trump on them and not doing the job of being a good journalist. She should basically embarrass both Trump & Wallace.

(6,587 posts)fire back & call the media out on this crap. Maybe they are but if not they need to get going on it. Also, as you say, they need to be ready for the debates because it looks like they could be framed in Trump's best interest not Clinton's.

(2,034 posts)make up bull shit like this. My relatives and I were talking yesterday and all of them can't wait to get in and vote for Hillary they do not want Trump in at all, even the youngsters who can't vote yet are begging us not to let Trump win.
global1
(25,242 posts)everyone doesn't take Trump seriously and is deathly afraid should he become president. No one I know is voting for him.
Even most talk TV show hosts make Trump the butt of their jokes and tear him a new one every chance they get.
It seems the only ones that are for Trump are his surrogates & media talking heads that want us to believe this race is close because they have the advertising bucks and campaign money in mind.
If I happen to run into a Trump supporter in my travels I embarrass them by saying to them - you're smarter then that - what are you thinking about. You really aren't serious that you like that guy - are you. The majority of them then back down.
Even my staunches Repug friends don't want Trump as their president and either are going to sit this election out because they don't feel the current Repug Party is what they've supported in past years or are going to vote just for down Party candidates or are going to vote for Hillary.
I don't believe the polls. They are contrived and like the old joke about accountants - will be what one wants it to be.
I really can't wait til election day and this long, long national nightmare of this campaigning is over.
The only problem is the next election of 2018 will start immediately and we will be constantly bombarded with new campaign rhetoric.

(10,291 posts)and three of them I am related to and they've never voted R before...EVER.
It's like they got bit and they're walkers now. I am in a blue state, but it just so happens I am in the reddest, Trumpiest part of it

(53 posts)Its actually a pretty close race. Hilary's lead is 3-4 points. There will always be outlier polls but that goes both ways.

(1,907 posts)Is they are being lead around by the nose by sites like infowars, bretwhatever, citizens united etc. They can't figure out they aren't really reporting, making valid statements, or even thinking about what they are reporting. They have allowed those sites to take over the news they follow their lead and make no attempt to actually report. They give no actual thought to they are being used by them. If this continues they will be consumed by those sites. They have started and will become the next generation of those sites if they continue as they are.

(5,049 posts)We should be used to this by now... The M$M always rolls out of Labor Day with polls showing either a dead heat or with the republicans slightly ahead. This election is in OUR hands. So let's put this thing away... Donate if you can, knock on doors, make phone calls, or just put a yard sign in your yard - make one if you have to...
Let's turn that Electoral College map solid blue.

The media is building the close race narrative for a couple of reasons: First of all, of course, it means more viewers for them. The more conflict they can build into the race, the more interesting it is for viewers and advertisers. The second is that they're worried about losing access. If they call Trump's lies and bullshit out as it really is, they'll lose access to Trump, and potentially the GOP, and even potentially the President if somehow he gets elected. So, damn the torpedoes and damn the consequences, they're going to build that horse race narrative and grade Trump on a curve because $$$$$$$. Who cares if women's rights, LGBTQ rights, rights of POC, the poor, immigrants, refugees, prisoners, students, etc... are impacted negatively? They've got a dying print medium to attempt to limp lamely on and on and on.
