I know too damn many saying they are voting 3rd party

Like most of you, I've been an active democrat for my entire adult life. I relaunched my college's young democrats chapter, later ran for and was elected for municipal office, helped elect a few Democratic mayors and worked on a few Gubernatorial campaigns. I volunteered for Clinton 08 and later Obama/Biden 08 and 12...in that time, I've met lots of voters and fellow liberal volunteers and have amassed a pretty large network of friends and acquaintances who are democrats or democratic leaners.

What is horrifying to me is the number of these friends and acquaintances who voted for Obama twice and still love and admire him, but are refusing to support Hillary. Most are younger males that I know under 40, most of them white and middle class, most of them college educated. Most of them are clearly idiots because they are either voting for Jill Stein (without a coherent explanation as to why), some claim they are writing in Bernie (pointless), and a few are not voting at all (citizen malpractice in my book)!

This is starting to make my blood boil! I keep hearing from these folks who have bought the media bullsh#t about trustworthiness and corruption. These people are lifelong blue voters, and the media and their own (sexist?) biases have them totally brainwashed into thinking a protest vote that elects Trump is more honorable than a Hillary vote???!!!

I seriously hope this is just a result of a me having wide net of politically active acquaintances and not reflective of a seriously poisoned well.

This is not concern trolling, this is head-exploding incredulity over how utterly stupid too many people are being this year.

Feeling a bit deflated...wake me up in November!

not voting for HRC, and allowing the possibility of a Trump presidency, is unfathomable for me.

I was as enthusiastic as can be about Bernie, but the thought of going third party or write-in never crossed my mind.

need to wake up by October. You need to recruit votes, especially if you live in a purple state, and sign up to phone bank if you live in a red or blue state.

No sleeping for you. NO SLEEPING!!

If so, I would be worried. If not, I would not worry too much. I live in a very blue state and I have said many times that I am voting for Hillary because I want to, not because I feel like I have to.

Even the head of the Bernie Delegates Network, the group that organized some of the convention protests, has said that Bernie supporters in swing states should "take a clothespin to their nose" and vote for Hillary.

She has a 6 year old son who she loves dearly. She hates Trump with a passion. She has heard people bash Clinton for many years. I looked at her and told her a vote for anyone other than Hillary this time around is the same as voting for Trump and that he is DANGEROUS for her future and the future of her son. I asked her what she thinks will happen if Trump shoots off at the mouth all around the world, and enrages so many countries that we end up on the wrong side of another World War. I asked if she wants my grandson drafted and forced to fight and possibly die defending a colossal douche puff like Trump. Her jaw sort of dropped and it looked like she actually thought about it for a split second. Then I told her that anyone who doesn't vote against that diabolical festering boil on the arse of humanity is guilty of treason. Vote your conscience NEXT TIME, but dang it, vote to save our country now because if you don't we may not have a country left to have another election.

Politely explain there are a couple ways you could look at voting. One is as a personal statement. Its your chance to say something about who you are and what you believe. The other is to view it in a strategic way. How do you get the best result for yourself and the country?

The problem with the first way is that it comes with a price. The price is that you may very well get the worst possible outcome. Is making your personal statement worth the cost? What if you also give consideration to those who might not be in as a secure position as yourself? You might not have to worry about getting deported, but what about the young American citizen that suddenly loses everything and finds themselves having to leave school move to Mexico because Mommy and Daddy got deported? Is your personal statement worth that?

In the other view the question just becomes, "what action can I take now, that will give the best future outcomes?" It doesn't even need to be an endorsement of the candidate; if you want to view it as "less bad" that's fine. Just, what action can I take to ensure the worst doesn't happen? In this view the choice is clear for everyone.*

*OK not for Republicans but that goes without saying.

It's their vote, their choice. I can't control their vote, nor would I want to.

I can only control my vote.

Except a few co-workers who are gun nuts and always vote repug. All my family and friends and most my neighbors are in her corner. I feel lucky.
