Desperate Gov. McCrory attacks trans teens in new ad aimed at saving his flailing NC campaign
North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory is getting absolutely crushed in gubernatorial polls heading into his reelection bid this fall, and it looks like he’s starting to lob Hail Marys down the field.
In a new ad posted this week, McCrory depicts himself as a “common sense” candidate who was merely looking to protect teenage girls from the wicked depredations of transgender teens.
“You know, when we were raising average teacher pay, creating new jobs and cutting taxes, other folks were actually pushing to make our schools allow boys to use the girl’s locker rooms and showers,” he says. “Are we really talking about this? Does the desire to be politically correct outweigh our children’s privacy and safety? Not on my watch. Our kids and teachers are my priority. This is North Carolina. Let’s do what’s right.”
Of course, North Carolina’s HB2 law has drawn widespread criticism not only from LGBT advocates, but also from several businesses in the state that have said boycotts against North Carolina are costing the state’s tourism business tens of millions of dollars.
