We're expected to reach out to these voters????????`

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/_hang_the_b_tch_f_g_n_gger_uncensored_video_of_trump_rallies_exposes_culture_he_s_created

"Get out of here, you fag!"

"Fuck that nigger!"

"Hillary Clinton needs to get her ass spanked!"

"Ignorance and immigrants. They mix together!"

"Fuck those dirty beaners!"

"Hillary is a whore!"

Those are some of the comments made by Trump supporters at rallies the Republican nominee for president has made over the past few months, as the New York Times shows in a compilation of various clips they've put together and published today.

As not only a gay man but a black gay man of color I have personally been called those things by Trump supporters. I've had a few even demand my physical address so they could come and "set me straight." It disturbed me that yesterday on Democratic Underground that I saw a few posters actually suggesting that we need to be going after these voters. I am sorry but let me give you a reality check to anyone who thinking along those lines.

1. These voters, not with us. Not going to happen.
2. These voters, highly racist, they hate anyone who isn't white. Not going to happen.
3. These voters, highly homophobic. They won't be with us. Not going to happen.
4. These voters, highly sexist. They hate women with a passion. Not going to happen.
5. If you don't bow down to them, they will insult and call you names. Not going to happen.

Its time for me to get real with you Democratic Underground. Hillary Clinton was right to call these folks out and we need to keep calling them out. We need to shame these folks and I really, really hope that you can get as many people to come out and vote blue in November. Its my plea that we beat these folks so bad that the Republican Party will either take a cold, serious look at themselves and try to change or fade into history. I can't be the only one hoping this.

Hillary tore it off with words, now we have to stand up and never back down. This is what white nationalism looks like, white supremacy, the Klan, Aryan Nations......this is the "new" and "old" Republican Party and it's time to put it back under the rock it crawled out from.

I thought what she said made sense. They seem to think the system has failed them and don't know what to do about it.

I've worked for a couple of Republicans who probably hold all the deplorable views but were pretty quiet about it due to having to work with customers who are members of all those hated groups.

The problem, I think, is that they see the Democratic Party as the food stamp party, raising taxes to pay for "welfare chiselers" - and taking away their guns. They were raised Republican in a rural/small business area and can't really break away.

As for the other half, they deserve to be called out for their pure hatefullness even if it doesn't do any good. I've had a lot of years of having to shut up about my views. It's looking now like those views are becoming mainstream and I'm delighted about that.

I don't feel they have a right to be so ignorant, that they've failed themselves and their children very badly, but it's pretty much baked in after some decades. They're really caught between Trump's basket of deplorables and the gap between ideologies and can't take those steps that would reveal solid middle ground under their illusions.

I got into a discussion with a student Thursday over lunch who was spewing out a lot of RW talking points. We switched to some personal stories and pretty much agreed to disagree although we actually did agree on something. As we were heading back to our respective classes, he turned, stuck out his hand and introduced himself. I was stunned and am looking forward to meeting him again. I may print out some facts on Benghazi for him.

He styles himself an anarchist and probably won't vote at all, let alone for "out-of-touch" Hillary, but he's young and maybe a seed was planted.

Maybe all we can do is try to plant seeds - and hope a few will grow.

countered the idea she's out of touch with the working class. She wasn't born into the 1%. I don't think he'll watch it on YouTube, though.

The one I really want to counter is "They" (presumably Clinton and Obama) "ignored intelligence." There was no intelligence other than a general warning. I wasn't really aware of that at the time and countered with Republicans voting down funding. The young man must have seen something from Flynn on that.

Here's my homework:

http://www.mediamatters.org/research/2016/06/28/comprehensive-guide-benghazi-myths-and-facts/211240

There were others in the room of voting age who seemed to be rather apolitcal. It was obvious they were listening so maybe they got to thinking even if the tatooed one didn't.

misconception most interests them, and sounds good.

Just chatting with mostly older people around here, when the Clinton Foundation has come up I'll mention something like its campaign to cut infant and child deaths from diarrhea--as in SURE she needs to separate from it if she wins, BUT not not interrupting its work is literally a matter of life and death for some.

Seems to me the CF's reality undermines so many of the lies about the kind of person she is. The CF also always gives a chance to counter lies with the fact that it is actually an A-rated charity, right up there with the Red Cross and Doctors without Borders. People really don't know that.

but try to tell that to someone who thinks it's Hilary's personal enrichment fund. I brought up Trump's 6' portrait and the Bondi bribe in an AOL troll fest and got nowhere but most of those posters seem to be drive-bys anyway.

I may have struck a nerve on the health thing on AOL, though. Someone asked me if I'm paid by the DNC.

I think it's important to keep countering the hateful stuff people are spreading if for no other reason than truth matters.

"Trump" yard signs and many handwritten signs disparaging Hillary... people even have large TRUMP flags flying right below their U.S. Flags

my work has me traveling through neighborhoods and in the past few months I have been in Florida, Mississippi and Texas... I have taken some pictures but they really are too disgusting to post...

I find that I am more exhausted after a day working in a neighborhood with lots of "Trump" signs... and don't let anyone say it is only a certain group, I see Trump signs in low, middle and high income areas

Broadly speaking, those are comments of ignorance, from people raised and fanned to hate. If we write them off, we're writing off effecting any change in that pattern, for them now and for future generations, and we're playing into the "they don't care about people like us" narrative. Better to keep trying to reach out, educate, and help improve circumstances for all, no?

I saw that video and we need to find a way to get it, uncensored, on national TV, perhaps in an ad, f.i.

I don't see the downside to this, few people in the groups being disparaged would object and it might just show those halfway decent Republicans the company they're keeping in supporting and voting for this monster Trump.

Almost none of this later group go to Trump rallies and probably don't know how much it resembles a KKK or Nazi gathering.

The networks would probably say it's too controversial at first but there should be ways of overcoming this.

Trust me, I've been trying, with some sucess, to educate the moderate GOP'ers I know and many of the older one really have no idea how toxic these events are. They just vote Republican because they always have and only need a little push in the right direction. Most are truly clueless.

Unless these people have some kind of "come to Jesus" moment or some other rational or spiritual awakening, they won't change. They either crawl out or back under their rocks. Luckily, their percentage of the population continues to decline with every passing generation.

There's research showing brain scans are notably different from non-authoritarians, who tend to be liberal.

There are plenty of authoritarians who are young.

Our culture has to speak and act differently. Call out hate, idiocy, obstruction, sleaze and dysfunction for what it is, focus more positive attention on intelligence and compassion.

ETA: yes people will always love a freak show, but people can only take them for a limited time. If enabled, they eventually go over the top and people get sick of it.
