I didn't like George W. Bush, Mitt Romney, or John McCain...

I didn't like George W. Bush, Mitt Romney, or John McCain , but I would have never said they were racists, xenophobes, anti-semites, or misogynists or bigotry was the focal point of their campaigns.

I would say that about Donald Trump...

...knew and wanted that voter base - but they did send signals they were displeased with the bigots position in the party. Trump exposed and welcomed them to win the Republican primary. Good thing JFK and LBJ decoded to throw them out of the Democratic Party.

49% of Trump voters believe African Americans are lazy.

However so do 31% of Clinton supporters !!!

The difference is she doesn't actively court them and neither did Bush, McCain, or Romney.

Trump is actively courting them.

The Republican Party in general, however, appeals to a lot of the same kind of people, just not quite as blatantly as Trump's campaign does. Unfortunately, the GOP base finally got "their" preferred candidate nominated this year.

Just look at Alt-Right twitter pages... This goes way past your garden variety bigotry.

I agree with you that there are degrees of bigotry. I can't stomach any of it and could not bring myself to vote for almost any Republican out there. I could handle John McCain or Mitt Romney being POTUS moreso than Donald Trump, however.

One of his few redeeming qualities was being able to find corrupt and incompetent men and women no matter their race/ethnicity:

Condi Rice, Colin Powell, Alberto Gonzalez, Harriet Myers, Elaine Chao, Rod Paige, Gale Norton, Karen Hughes, etc.

remember, The Donald's initial council of economic advisers was 13 white men.

Cheney was in charge. However, i can't really see Cheney picking Alberto Gonzalez and a few of W's more diverse choices.
