Related: About this forumTrump on the upcoming debates: she's gotta treat me with respect
Recently interviewed by BillO on Fox,
Earlier in the interview, the former reality show host said he had no idea how he would behave toward the Democratic presidential nominee during the upcoming debate.
Youre going to have to feel it out when youre out there, said Trump, who has insisted on calling Clinton Crooked Hillary throughout his campaign. Shes got to treat me with respect. Im going to treat her with respect. Id like to start off by saying that because that would be my intention.

Reminded me of this quote I found one day last year on the ol' internets

(1,265 posts)"...and during this debate, I will do exactly that. I will assume that statements made by you are made in in good faith and to the best of your knowledge are verifiably true.
Having said that, I can only conclude that you are not well served by your advisers and staff. It is a matter of public record and common knowledge that you have made a very large number of statements questioning the citizenship of our current president. It is also a matter of public record that no Democratic officeholders or office seekers have made such statements. Since we unquestionably accept your sincerity and good intentions, we must conclude that in the hustle and bustle of this season's hectic campaign, these facts have become confused in your mind and someone close to you is deliberately feeding you misinformation to make you look like a liar and a fool. I offer my services and my extensive experience in elective politics to you to help root out this person (or people) who are obviously out to sabotage your campaign."
Be careful what you wish for. You may get it.

Hopefully the real audience, the voters that are watching, would appreciate such a cogent statement.

I feel like trump wants to be "Hitler"..bringing Putin on with this group...I see him getting rid of all the republicans
and or democcrats in operation and making his own rules....AND THOSE RULES WOULD BE RIDICULOUS.
He thinks he is already president....and He worries me alot...but I'm tryig to stay "not" worried....

(36,926 posts)This is NOT the primary, where competitors had to walk gingerly among each other. He's not going to tolerate looking stupid, which will, of course, happen. Then, an epic melt down will happen. This is definitely going to be fun to watch. Probably will be the beginning of the end for Rump's presidential campaign. So looking forward to his colossal tantrum next Monday!

Yes, I agree...her ability to communicate three dimensionally so far surpasses his that she will shine, no doubt.
The challenge comes in just how it's reported.

Blue Idaho
(5,048 posts)I sincerely doubt that. I really think this is all part of his "secret plan" for the debates. He has now demanded respect from his opponent and the debate moderator. I suspect that when things get really tough on stage he will simply play the "respect" card and walk off the stage.
SticksnStones
(2,108 posts)No way he lasts 90 minutes without crowds chanting his name or other nonsense.
He'll wait for it to feel tight, and walk off creating a media hubbub for days that's all about him.
Comparisons of "was he disrespected", analyzing her every eyeball movement, etc. will fill the hours.
No way it's an actual debate. It will be as much of a circus as he can muster.

(13,133 posts)90 minutes in a debate conversation doesn't work very well for anyone who mostly tries to shoot from the hip. I think she is already well practiced and will not come close to groveling in the mud with this character.

(24,761 posts)He has the gall to demand respect (read: deference) from a woman he trashes, slanders, and demonizes throughout this campaign and she's supposed to kiss his ass just because he says so?!
Donald, you can take your sense of entitlement and shove it up your ass! Hillary will hand you your pathetic little whiny ass during the debates, even with the help of your buddies in the media!!

(10,828 posts)This is just another adolescent moment in time for The Donald. He sounds like some 15-year old kid who declares he/she deserves respect for basically taking up space.
Hillary Clinton owes this poor excuse of a man . . . nothing. Absolutely nothing

(15,220 posts)My feeling here is that Trump is saying that Hillary has to treat him with respect. Because he's the male, he's the man, he's got a penis. She needs to know her place in other words.
It's disgusting.
I hope Hillary castrates the bastard on live television!
SticksnStones
(2,108 posts)Deference because of his maleness...yeah, I'm not on board with that.
It's going to be tricky to navigate his outbursts. Because naturally, everything she does is examined under a microscope practically, while his actions...a telescope I suppose.
Am I the only one with a knotted stomach just thinking about how inappropriate he might get?

(15,220 posts)It's just the unpredictability of Trump. He will go anywhere and all over during the debate. He'll say anything. If the moderators don't keep him in check, he will do anything to make sure he has the headlines the following morning.
I think it will be an opportunity for Hillary to shine. I think she needs to be calm, careful and just let him have a little tantrum.
I also like the prior suggestion on DU that when she shakes hands with him, she should whisper that his hands are the smallest she's ever seen!!! LOL

(3,635 posts)Based on how Trump abused his primary opponents and everyone else, most viewers are wondering if he will disrespect Hillary (the first female major-party nominee). Trump has recognized this sentiment and and is attempting to invert it, by making it about her need to respect him. He's also creating a false equivalency (that the both deserve the same respect) between someone as accomplished in politics as she is, and someone historically unqualified and reckless as he is.
Trump deserves disrespect. To respect America (and the Constitution) one must disrespect and disavow a neofascist thug like Trump, and I hope Hillary goes into the debate with this mentality, to smash the false equivalence frame that the media/Trump/rightwing have been feeding us.
