2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust saw on CNN where Hillary is too DEFENSIVE. What does that mean? She is not supposed to
defend herself from lies and innuendo?
I just don't get it. After all these years of attacks with lies and unfounded allegations we should not expect that Hillary will defend herself? The double and now triple standard of the media and most GOP voters is sickening.
Trump doesn't defend himself because he doesn't have to. People know he is lying and they don't care and he knows it.

(115,576 posts)That's the fate of most high-profile women. You're too quiet or too loud; too defensive or too confrontational (meaning: bitchy); too timid (meaning: weak) or too aggressive (meaning: castrating). Too attractive (meaning: slut) or too ugly (meaning: old hag). She should just do what she thinks she needs to do and to hell with the pundits.

(6,409 posts)They treat Trump as if he had any credibility, in spite of his history as a con man, birther, etc. They demand Hillary "respond to these allegations" and then call her overly defensive when she does respond. We live in the age of reality TV, and the TV "news" is part of it.

(13,769 posts)I was in college when Betty Friedan published The Feminine Mystique. I thought I had seen an incredible amount of progress. But the amount of double standards I've seen applied, even from supposedly intelligent people like Mark Shields and David Brooks has just floored me!

(11,119 posts)They believe that Barack Obama is alone responsible for the reduction of demand for coal because of over-regulation. I keep arguing that coal mining is going away because the Earth only has a limited amount of coal. I get that they are scared but they need to learn how to do something else, something cleaner, something safer...
