2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHere is something I love about Hillary that I've never read about.
Her clothes are so practical. Her suits mean she never has to waste time shaving her legs, and she can always wear low-heeled or flat shoes -- and no one notices.
No teetering around on high heels that supposedly make a woman look sexy, while shortening her steps and KILLING her feet!
Yay, Hillary! Thanks for leading the way toward comfortable clothes.

(90,562 posts)...but a woman can never do that. However, over 30 years ago professional women discovered pantsuits and they've come a long way since double-knit polyester or wool.
Yet even at DU we've had more than one lengthy thread criticizing her sartorial choices. I keep asking what they want her to wear? Dresses like Margaret Thatcher? Hats and gloves like the Queen? Please. At our age our legs are often not our best feature anyway. In the not so distant past I've read snarking about Hillary's "cankles."
I'm totally with you, pnwmom. Hill's looking good.

(108,959 posts)Neither of us knows what "most women" do with regard to shaving their legs, if they wear pants all the time.
We only know what we do, or don't.

(5,164 posts)because leg hair stops growing.
However, as a woman "matures" hairs pop up in places one would rather not have them - like on the upper lip or the chinny-chin-chin.
Hopefully she gets a regular waxing where required.

(108,959 posts)Why should incredibly capable, smart, professional women who wear pants be criticized for not regularly shaving their legs? What business is it of anyone's what her legs look like under her clothes?

(58,785 posts)but at least now the word's out: Leg hair stops growing when you get older and/or becomes a lot finer. Even if her preference is still for a sleek feel, she is a married woman after all, people should be assured that it will take virtually no time from her presidential workday.
Hillary's choice of intensely practical clothes is interesting. Body armor may have had something to do with the smock choice, which may have made sensibly layered ensembles undoable. But the loose lines might also just be her choice for those long, long hours locked into sitting and standing. And more fabric would make it easier to position it to avoid wrinkling. She visited 102 countries as SoS.
And I just looked. She does wear pumps and kitten heels, as well as flats. As an appraiser, I galloped all over Southern California, climbed fences, and hiked hillside lots on this heel. Big no to pointed toes, though. (Yes, that is H.)

I wear crop pants in warm weather, and always look forward to the cool/cold months wearing long pants so I don't have to shave my legs. Most of the older women I know are living with stiff backs and knees so it's a blessing to eliminate that chore. It is also a source of humor as we rate our medical professionals on whether they are "worth" a leg shave if we have a winter appointment.

(2,678 posts)Hilary's persona. The outfit she wore for the acceptance speech looked really nice. Whatever suit she wears tonight she'll look fine. As for the shaving legs, who knows and does it really matter?

(6,496 posts)but I imagine I would dress like her if I had a job that required dressing up. I dress for comfort and practicality. I always have. I don't own a single pair of heels and I pretty much never wear makeup. I take a shower, comb my hair and get dressed for the weather. That's about it.
