So if Trump lays an egg at the debate, but the media fawns all over him anyway

Would he have won or lost the debate?

It seems to be the MO of the MSM to herald every grandiose overstatement or maniacal utterance of this man.

If history is any lesson, this debate will be no different. Granted, we're seeing instances in recent days of media outlets calling him on his lies and condemning him as untrustworthy.

But is it too little, too late? Will tonight's...and tomorrow's...coverage of the debate fairly expose the lies, the deceits, and the pathological mendacity of The Man with Tiny Hands?

Because if doesn't, I can't help but think that the fix is on.

He will really have to embarrass himself in some way that has nothing to do with his lack of knowledge or preparedness to be President, because the media doesn't care about that one bit. He will have to do something physical, walk off stage, act nuts beyond belief, try to hit Secretary Clinton; something like that to lose the debate with the media.

If Lester Holt and the other talking heads fall to their knees before Trump like Matt Lauer did, we're done.

it would be seen as a triumph - what a great leader - not taking any crap from his opponent - what a great statement etc etc etc

Hope he does though as people outside our insipid media will see what a shit he is.

I don't think we will see him mocking cerebral palsy victims on TV tonight, and he won't be making off-color jokes about female body parts, either. He has most certainly been schooled as to what he can get away with and what he can't.

However--he has been schooled by Fox Noise media types, whose knowledge of debating tactics consists of how to shout down your opponent until nothing they say gets heard or digested. This will play to his crowd, but not to the rest of the country, and may even go too far for the ordinarily friendly media outlet supposedly "moderating" the event.
