Is anyone watching this shit ? Unbelievable bigging up of Trump, it's embarrassing. The only dissenting voice is Nicole Wallace ironically.

(5,624 posts)back. Do yourselves a favor and put that show on ignore. It's just not healthy to watch. I don't know how Howard Dean has managed to be on there as often as he can.
We need a DRAFT JOY REID movement to get her to replace these losers on MJ.

BUT
those people who needed to be swung over to him, were unmoved previously. Nothing he did last night will move those voters to him, and if anything, will have moved some to Hillary. That's the key which has zoomed over her head.

Meaning, you know, about 50 minutes or so of content, deducting commercials. I never watch this show so it was interesting to me.
The mood started out weird and Scarborough really seemed subdued like he didn't quite know where to go. Mika had this downcast look on her face and claimed she was "afraid" that Trump would go up in the polls.
Then the guests and supporting players started to chime in. Willie Geist pretty clearly thought Trump did horribly. Barnicle said Hillary would go up in the polls. Even Halperin (!!) was complimenting Hillary and slamming Trump's performance. Jon Heileman (I probably misspelled that; sorry) from Bloomberg said Trump was terrible. Nicole Wallace, who had presumably slept on a cot or at a neighboring hotel for at most a few hours, started getting frustrated and saying that Trump was just awful. Later, she was replaced by Steve Schmidt, who just lit into Trump mercilessly and was also very impressed by Hillary's preparation; both Schmidt and Geist agreed that Hillary's preparation lay not just in recitation of facts, but the ability to pivot and think on her feet and respond to what Trump threw out, which by contrast he was completely unable to do. They agreed she was a skilled debater in that regard and had done well. Oh, Chuck Toad came in for (weirdly) one segment to dispense his usual "above it all" nonsense but also admitted that Trump was awful and unprepared. Schmidt said he thought a "2.3 percent polling average lead" for Hillary would go up by two points or so in the aftermath of the experience, and someone else commented that Gary Johnson voters would start abandoning their goofy (my word) protest vote stance and vote for Clinton. (On edit: this was Cilizza.)
I fast forwarded through Conway; I had no interest in her spin. Joel Benenson (Clinton strategist) was very relaxed, calm, and responded to everything thrown his way with well-reasoned arguments and points.
Eventually, at the 7:30 AM Eastern mark, Mika indicated that she seemed to be the only one who felt the way she did. She was definitely playing the concern troll role but was effectively - over several segments and in a polite way - completely shouted down by the rest of the panelists.
So all in all I would say the post-debate media spin is going our way early.

(5,648 posts)CNN annalists, not the the surrogates, are all praising Hillary's performance and dumping on Trump - which is the only honest things to do given the performances we saw.
Ligyron
(7,627 posts)CNN is actually reporting on how bad Trump did and conversely how well Hills did. Prepared, knew when to attack and baited Rump perfectly forcing his large ego to defend his wonderfulness all night. sniff, sniff
CNN now reporting OTOH about how unprepared and easily flustered the don was, how he forgot about the concept of pivoting and how, ironically, after accusing Hills of not having "stamina" these last couple weeks, he ran totally out of gas himself toward the end - devolving into some disjointed gibberish about Rosie and other nonsense. Guess from watching the commentary on Morning Blow and CNN that his coke buzz must have faded.
Maybe he should try crank next time?
I only watched the first 15 min on Bloomberg myself (looking for the vaunted fact-checking) after seeing how rude, mean and spiteful he was - interrupting her with Hills seemingly becoming a bit flustered herself. I see now that she wiped the floor with him just as I had hoped. Yeah, I turned it off thinking "this could be bad" and went to bed figuring I'd catch the highlights this am on the teevee and here on DU.
I think instead of smiling so much when he lied or insulted her that she should perhaps shake her head and roll her eyes more and even look a bit hurt, perhaps even gasping a little when he was particularly insulting.
I get she wants to look strong and like none of this bothers her one bit but to me it looks a bit strained and you can see it in her eyes. Not slamming her, or concern trolling, I'm with her all the way with my heart and pocket book but just what I think might work better then a constant strained smile when one can see in her eyes she doesn't really feel amused.
Can't wait for the next one! Can't wait to see what this performance does to the polls either.
