2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat they did when the debate was over said it all for me.
The debate ended. The families of the two debaters began streaming up to the stage.
Hillary Clinton, MY future President, walked over to the moderator, shook his hand, and thanked him.
THEN she went to embrace her daughter and her husband, and immediately they all turned to the audience, bent over the front row, smiling, shaking hands, exchanging comments and thanks.
The Nuclear Cheeto waited by his podium for the family, accepted their congratulations and homage, began to leave the stage with them, stopped himself, walked over to shake hands with the moderator, and left, surrounded by his posse.
That was actually the most revealing moment of the whole debate, to me.

(4,178 posts)Caught a glimpse of a Trump family argument as they entered vehicles.
Apparently it included some "gestures"

(4,178 posts)looked like Don arguing with his son in law.
They speculated it might be about the mic.
They sat around the table laughing about a gesture they couldn't show on TV.

(1,907 posts)But on msnbc they had the group walking down toward the suv and the same stuff was going on as they were walking. They paused a few times there, then went by the suv doing the same thing. Would love to know how to read lips.

(65,227 posts)I wish I had seen the video of that.
BTW, I could read W's lips as he hugged the Obamas and said goodbye before getting into the helicopter on the day of Pres. Obama's inauguration. He said, "You're going to have the time of your lives, I promise."
To him, being president had been a lark, an opportunity to be at the center of attention and to get all sorts of perks, but since Cheney ran the show, it was fun for W, not work.

(1,907 posts)Of trump group arguing suv after debate, etc. And couldn't find a video.
But the group when leaving the debate paused a couple times along the covered walkway to the area the suv was at to talk. Plus the time just standing by the suv.

(14,272 posts)He was complaining to a CNN reporter about the mic within one hour of the debate ending. I still have no idea why he thinks his performance was sabotaged by a mic when we all heard him loud and clear.

That said, thanks for the laugh.

(90,560 posts)...would pick up his persistent sniffling the way it did, but the interruptions were completely intentional.
Maybe "Dr" Feelgood can give him something for those sniffles.

(128,502 posts)most significant thing I saw at the debate end on the stage. He actually watched Hillary walk over to Lester to shake his hand and turned away to wait for his family to come up... and then as if he suddenly remembered the rehearsed protocol, he finally walked over and shook Lester's hand.
It's a learned habit - a power play. In his mind, Holt was supposed to come up to HIM to shake hands, not the other way around, so it was extremely awkward for him to have to initiate contact with someone who he considers "beneath" him. I expect he didn't bother during the primary debates because half the clown car filled the stage and he could slide away. But when you just have 2 debaters, both are in the spotlight.

(27,787 posts)I noticed it right away.
It was as if the end caught him by surprise.
And he had no idea how he had ended up face down on the canvass.

(1,383 posts)Did anyone record the debate on MSNBC?
If so, go back and watch the Orange Menace ~60 seconds after the conclusion. He is speaking with one of his kids, the one with dark hair, the "trust me" guy. Anyway, you can see the Orange Menace lip the words while nodding his head, "yeah, she did a good job". I watched it twice to make sure and my lady agreed. Very telling and very unlike him.
It was great TV!!

(6,831 posts)Trump and the Clan barely smiled at all, and supposedly Trump got into a little argument with his son-in-law and a female reporter.

(3,001 posts)Trump followed Clinton's lead in approaching Lester Holt and shaking his hand. He was deer in the headlights from the first minute.

(60 posts)Hillary Clinton walked directly over to Lester Holt, shook his hand and proceeded towards the audience where she greeted her family and audience members. Lester Holt was expecting Donald Trump to follow Hillary's lead, but, of course, Donald has no grace. Lester was left hanging so he tried to play it off by scratching the back of his neck. Finally, Donald acknowledged Lester and shook his hand. Then Donald made a beeline over to his family. Melania was there, too.
While Hillary and her husband worked the crowd, Donald and them huddled on the stage looking awkward like they didn't know what they were supposed to do next. They all turned to look, forlornly, I might add, at the Clinton's and then they all left the stage.
When Donald and them got outside, Donald let loose on his son-in-law (whom I think has to call Donald 'Mr. Trump') although there was no sound. Donald was very upset about something.
But, yeah, people noticed.
