Why Does Donald Trump Lie So Much?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/emilywillingham/2016/09/27/why-does-donald-trump-lie-so-much/#6b7569746d24

During the first 2016 presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, the Huffington Post kept a tally of the lies that each candidate told in their responses to Lester Holt’s questions. The final HuffPo tally? Donald Trump: 16; Hillary Clinton: 0.

Although the media have made much of Clinton’s “trust problem,” data even beyond this debate tally suggest that Trump has a solid pattern of lying pretty much all the time, about any situation, especially those that might cast him in what he perceives as a negative light.

His reputation is such that this debate, like no debate before it, had every news media outlet promising intensive fact-checking of every assertion. Fact-checkers have probably never before been this employable and may be the true winners in this election.

One of the most assiduous chroniclers of Trump’s falsehoods is the Toronto Star‘s Daniel Dale, who has been keeping tabs on each of the lies in Trump’s speeches and other public appearances and reporting them on Twitter TWTR +1.50%. It’s an astonishing litany of insistent, apparently reflexive lying that in any normal year–and 2016 is emphatically not normal–would be the headline of the election.

4. He never even considers whether or not he's speaking the truth. There is never enough time for that.

He must completely dominate every conversation and appear to be masterful. Nothing else matters. The 'truth' is irrelevant to him.

self-esteem issues--something that probably started way back in his childhood. Who knows? The man is not fit for the Office of the Presidency. Period.

10. It's a technique that has become an ingrained habit and now he believes his lies.

He has no introspection.

He never blames himself, never apologizes.

He always seeks affirmation, never seeks to understand the other two sides, and rejects any evidence against him or his held positions.
