We will never see a candidate get nominated by a major party who is less fit to be President than Trump

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,576 posts)Bush had the qualification of having been governor of Texas; that was a job he'd held that he could list on his resume. So you could say he had at least the experience of having been an elected official. But he still was totally unfit - dumb, lazy, probably alcoholic. The same goes for Sarah Palin, half-term governor of Alaska and former mayor of Wasilla. She was marginally qualified in the sense of having had experience in government, but, like Bush, she was dumb and lazy and thus unfit.
Trump is worse than both of those idiots. One could argue that he's unqualified because he's never held elected office (but neither had Eisenhower, who was at least a halfway decent president). The real problem, though, is that he's spectacularly unfit - he's ignorant, narcissistic, bigoted, mean, and probably nuttier than squirrel shit.

(23,920 posts)relatively soon, within a decade, the Republican party will be dominated by racists and religious fanatics. they will find it difficult to nominate anyone who isn't as unfit as tRump. as we saw in the last primary cycle, even a plurality of racists and celebrity worshipers were able to force tRump through to the nomination. a true majority would make it impossible to nominate a candidate acceptable to the mainstream. they'll be full-on idiocracy by 2040.
one major beneficiary of this will be the Libertarian party. with tRump and tRump-like candidates heading the GOP ticket, even mediocrities like Gary Johnson can perform strongly.
