Are Trump Supporters Too Dumb To Know They’re Dumb? Science Says “Probably”

Are Trump Supporters Too Dumb To Know They’re Dumb? Science Says “Probably”

How the hell can anybody call themselves intelligent when they’re supporting Donald Trump? It’s a question that baffles people who are able to think critically, able to read and comprehend both history and current events, and able to see through Trump’s thin façade of know-it-all-ism and deep into what he is – an ignorant, narcissistic, and dangerous conman.

Trump supporters not only don’t see this, they’re happy that there’s someone running for president that thinks exactly like them. Take Melanie Austin, of Brownsville, Pennsylvania. She thought her beliefs about Obama being a gay Muslim from Kenya and Michelle being transgender were just fringe beliefs – right up until she started hearing similar stuff from Trump and other right-wing extremists.

Now she knows she’s right about all of this. You can’t tell her that she’s ignorant and dumb if she can’t figure this out for herself. You can’t tell her she’s delusional. You can sit there with her, and countless others like her, and present facts, figures, charts, studies, and more, all from the most reputable sources there are, and prove that her lord and savior is wrong, and you’ll still get shot down.

There’s more to this than the problem of confirmation bias. Austin gets much of her information from fringe right-wing blogs and conspiracy sites, but that’s not all of it. Many of Trump’s supporters are seriously too dumb to know they’re dumb. It’s called the Dunning-Kruger effect, and it’s an unshakeable illusion that you’re much smarter, and more skilled and/or knowledgeable, than you really are.

That is a well known psychological effect. People who don't know, don't know that they don't know.

Bad Moon Rising: How Reverend Moon Created the Washington Times, Seduced the Religious Right and Built an American Kingdom

by John Gorenfeld, Barry W Lynn, Barry Lynn

What does it say about American politics when a famous 1970s cult leader publishes a Washington newspaper, dresses up in the U.S. Senate offices like King George III, and no one in D.C. seems to care? One night in 2004, at one of Washington’s most outrageous dinner parties, members of Congress bought a shining crown and robes to a billionaire mystery man…

Some i have found are only different and then others fairly intelligent but just not able to communicate effectively. They are all part of population the GOP preys upon. With empathy rather than ridicule things can change

I hope Hillary wins both houses, and then has the balls, as an expression, to do something about the monopoly of right wing talk radio, predominantly owned by Clear Channel. Where every towns sports station covering the local football team is also the daytime wingnut anti-liberal rumor mill regurgitater. And that is the only political talk radio in the town to listen to. Then they go home and turn on Fox News. This is repeated thousands of times over. It has a direct impact on the underbelly of middle America, in that they are fed a complete fantasy vision of their country in ruins, and they are in ruins, and its all the liberal medias fault, oh and the Clintons. There is no happy news. We're all gonna die.

She could bring in some new form of the Fairness Doctrine. Capitalism cannot solve this, as many of the most proliferate corporations and their executives would rather work with the reprobate Republicans because its in their best monetary interests. And with Citizens Unitied as law, it only amasses the problem and political outcomes are decided more often by the bigger foot on the scale.

These stations dominate Middle America pounding home their most paranoid + biblical end-times fervor. .... over and over until these poor people just sucumb. Its like a cult. And now their Messiah has arrived and He will not be denied!
We have to be able to nip this in the bud. Because this is nothing. Imagine if Trump wins.

But imagine the best.....imagine the Democrats win all three branches, and about to nominate the deciding vote for the SCOTUS. Not that she can go full Bernie on day one, but damn they could get shit DONE!

and would it be too draconian to also regulate that TV News networks be required to follow basic standards of honesty, where their facts and what they present or insinuate as facts, be, in fact, facts. Some might say this type of regulation should be the very least they should be required to adhere to in order to have the privilege of using the Public Airwaves.

been an anathema to progress.Too long we have allowed the proliferation and profiteering of hate disguised as "news." An objectively informed electorate will nearly always lean toward a more inclusive, humane and kind society.
