Pence is barred by Indiana law from running for re-election and VP at the same time. So he gave up his highest office for this Trump campaign. That means when he loses, which seems to be the prevailing narrative, he's going to have to figure out how to stay in the public eye as a private citizen for 4 years. Maybe possible, if his national profile was bigger than "running mate to the biggest jackass to ever run for president.

Unfortunately for him, it's not. And if his Trump support wouldn't destroy him, his own record as a Christian Taliban governor would still be sufficient.

But today, there seems to be a lot of folks calling Pence on:

1) Refusing to defend Trump
and
2) Telling many flat-out falsehoods.

It's not the debate, it's what gets said about the debate in the following days. We are starting to see fact checking showing Pence as a serial liar. The campaign ads are writing themselves. I think that by the end of the week any sense that Pence won will be washed away by the sheer volume of certified lies and denials of fact that were the core of Pence's debate performance.

The Republican extremist base doesn't care anything about facts and/or truth. All they care about is that Pence talked about the "sin" of abortion. Doesn't matter that Pence lied when he said that Donald did not say he would punish women.

I think that the comments that Pence made last night on the subject of choice will, however, backfire as to any undecided voters where choice is important. Pence made his stance of extremism on that subject well understood last night, and I think his stance will offend a lot of rational, thinking people.

That's really what this election is about at this point. The rational, thinking people have GOT to get to the voting booths and vote to outnumber the crazies.
