If the Republican Nominee(I try not to say his name)were to get out of the race, what would happen?

Is there some kind of process in place? I'm hoping Lawrence covers it tonight. I think he has discussed it before. However, that was a couple of months ago. Now that we're one month away from the election, does that limit what the republicans could do? Thanks for any feedback.

3. The ballot is locked in for many states. His name would still appear, just like when people die.

4. if "he who shall not be named"

dropped out who would there be that could prove they never supported him at all? Anyone who knowingly supports him in my opinion supports what he does/did/or would be willing to do. How many of his followers are going to prove they do not approve other than yaking their jaws about it?

6. Trump would likely still be on the ballot, but

Let's say trump drops out and the encyclopedia decides the real ticket is, let's say, jeb/pence.

Then suppose further that somehow despite the confusion and trump's name being on the ballot, the republican ticket wins.

The electors are mostly bound to vote for trump, but not every state requires this, and in any event a few electors have been "faithless" in the past, though it has never mattered.

So most of the republican electors vote for trump, not enough to get a majority, and the rest vote for jeb. Without a majority, the house decides, and they pick jeb.

15. One thought is they might dump Trump to de-legitimize a Hillary victory

Replacing Trump would create tons of chaos and upset a lot of the Trump faithful.

Hillary would probably still win, but they could claim that she "didn't really win" because of a chaotic election process (that they themselves created)

13. Nothing would happen

He will still be on the ballot. It is too late to change that. Early voting has already started.

14. Early voting is already going on in several states.

Other states are about to start. So obviously the ballots are already printed. I don't see how they could drop him now.
