I do think the case could be made of some deaths that occurred among reactor workers who were exposed to high levels of radiation, similar to what happened to some workers at a nuclear fuels processing facility about 50 miles south of Fukushima Dai-ichi back in 1999. I also think there will be adverse health effects from this, especially among people who are living immediately downwind from the reactors.

(6,278 posts)Even among plant workers there are no radiation-related deaths, though there are deaths from other causes.
Part of that is that there's a latency period before cancer develops. My own estimate is that the in the coming years the number will be in the thousands.
