2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumFrom the Romney "people", "Toons for Romney" = idiocy you have to see to believe.
From the "How Stupid Do These People Think We Are?" Department;
The Romney campaign is getting roasted in editorial cartoons almost since its inception so out pops MittFitts.com: "Toons for Romney is a grassroots effort to support the candidacy of Governor Mitt Romney for President in 2012."
First some examples from people who are working to get Romney elected:
Here is the entire gallery: http://mittfitts.com/mittfitts-cartoon-gallery/
Now the site's owners state that they are an entirely 'grassroots' campaign with 'no' affiliation to the Romney campaign. The site has high expensive production value, sophisticated lay out and archeticture, elaborate RSS feeds, elaborate guest tracking, sophisticated legal advise, professional comic book artists formerly working for DC Comics and now illustrating for the LDS Church.
They purport to be 'grassroots' with no connection to the Romney campaign. All net proceeds from the site go to "are donated to the Romney for President campaign or affiliated Political Action Committees."
Right. No affilitation with the campaign.
In any case two mind numbing alternatives.
The first is that this is (98% probability) the off shoot of one of their PACs brainstorming sessions with their PR/Advertising people and they think that this kind of crappola is the kind of stuff that is going to get any traction with the American public at all.
The other is that this is (2% probability) the result of a bunch of guys from Romney's actual 'grass roots' campaign getting together.
Either possibility and the actual exeuction of the site is nauseating in either interpretation, ridiculous in their conception, profoundly idiotic in their substance, devoid of any humor at any point and if widely distributed absolutely counter productive to getting normal Americans to support their candidate.
Just how stupid do they think the American Public is?
"an entirely 'grassroots' campaign with 'no' affiliation to the Romney campaign". What sort of grassroots are these, putting greens?

(121 posts)Mitt lives in his 2% world -- he's got no clue what goes on outside of it. I'm sure the "rabid" among his campaign staff are dreaming of the untold riches headed their way if he were to become president.
More like "Mitt of Kleenex"

(7,380 posts)and thanks for being so appreciative! I'm glad you enjoy my collages! I have fun making them. After Dubya's reign of error, I sort of lost my inspiration, but there are so many repub dumbasses at whom to take aim, that my photoshopping never gets rusty. I'm not "rusty elf"

And they are a lot closer to the truth than most of us would like to believe.
A ticket of Osama bin Laden and Nasrallah would get 42% of the vote as long as they ran as Republicans.

The problem with humor and conservatives is that because they have such a hard time laughing at themselves, they also have a hard time with making jokes about their opponents.

I would say he's all those things except a RINO (he supports the primacy of the elites of American society, aka the establishment) and a non-Christian (Mormons acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, so they are Christian). I am a non-Christian, so whether Mormons are Christian heretics is something I'll leave to the Church of JCLDS and other branches of Christianity to hash that out. I don't care about Romney's religion; I'm not going to vote for somebody who mistakes corporations for human beings.
grantcart
(53,061 posts)for 1700 years the word 'Chrstian' has been used to designate the broad 98% of the followers of Christ that follow the Apostles and Nicene Creed and the basic premis of the Holy Trinity. Mormons do not accept either the Apostles Creed or the Nicene Creed so would fall outside of the normal definition of 'Christian'. For example after the ecumenical council in Nicea in 325 those that did not accept the orthodox explanation of WHO and WHAT the Christ was were forever labelled 'Gnostic Christians' even though the 'accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of Savior' while the 'trinitarian' Christians became known simply as 'Christians'. Mormon commentators seek to get themselves 'inside the parlor' by referring to Christians as 'trinitarians' and Mormons as 'Non-Trinitarians'. I think that if 98% of a group conclude that X is an essential part of being Y that the 98% should then be able to define the term that applies to the 98% and not allow the 2% to define the term to their preference.

(45,984 posts)Specifically, UU. We have a lot of respect for the bishops who were rejected by the Nicene council, such as the Arians and the Gnostics.
For my part, I am not a Christian because I have since I was a teenager rejected the doctrine of "one and only one way to salvation." A just God cannot be a sectarian bigot. If there is a Heaven where the good are rewarded, Mahatma Gandhi is there.
My own view of God would make me what is properly called a pantheist, in which I also reject the separation of creator and the creation. That allows me to look at the cosmos both rationally and mystically. Yes, there is room for both, even in the same mind.
