Election Night Conversation

On election night I spent it with like-minded political friends. In one of our discussions I mentioned that I hated Rmoney and everything he stood for. My friend was taken aback by this and asked if I really hated him. Upon reflection, two weeks later, I can answer I still absolutely hate the guy. He reminds of unearned privilege, he smacks of rampart hypocrisy, narrow paternalism, overbearing religious dogma, and two loathsome s's--smug and smirk.

I still hate him, but will think of him no more. He is a loser footnote in history. I don't hate that.

1. He lied, openly, provably, constantly to the American Public

like no other political figure in recent American history.

Made Nixon look like Andy Griffith.

Almost pure evil. I concur.

2. You don't hate him as a lot of Republicans do, probably.

They felt like they had to hold their nose and nominate him.

Not only for his stunning lack of principle, but because ordinary Republicans don't like vulture capitalists much more than they like black people.

3. I am so tired...

Of hearing what a "nice guy" Romney was/is. What is this based on? His ability to look into a camera and lie repeatedly and effortlessly? His charitable donations to his cult religion for tax dodging purposes? The fact that he made his fortune making life harder for average workers, that his economic policy is social Darwinism, that he supports paying for tax cuts for billionaires by slashing programs for the poor, the elderly, the disabled?

Oh, I know, he was "polite", right. Well, you know I remember my mom once telling my sister, "beware the man who is charming to you, but treats the waitress like shit". Truer words...

4. The more I saw of Mittens the more I disliked him.

Before the GOP primaries got going I didn't really know much about him, and as the primaries proceeded his awfulness was somewhat overshadowed by the overt looniness of most of the other candidates (I started to type "contestants" because the GOP primaries seemed more like one of those weird Japanese game shows than anything else). Compared to the others - batshit-crazy Michelle Bachmann; Rick "Torquemada" Santorum; the spectacularly unqualified Herman Cain; bomb-throwing egomaniac Newt Gingrich; dumb-as-a-box-of-hammers Rick Perry - he seemed relatively rational, if not especially charming.

As we got to "know" Mittens while the other candidates rose and fell in the polls (their falls due in part to Mittens' relentless attack ad carpet-bombing), I started to see that there was something totally off about him, more than the usual fakery of the average politician. Aside from his lack of any core beliefs other than his conviction that he deserved to be president because he was just so much better than everybody else, he oozed an air of superiority and contempt for everybody that wasn't Mitt Romney. He seemed to feel there were only two classes of people in the world: Mitt Romney and everybody else, whom he disdained as "the help." And he always seemed a little skeevy, like the the neighbor guy who seemed like such a straight arrow, went to church on Sundays, helped old ladies cross the street, and turned out to have a flamboyantly bizarre porn collection in his attic and several headless bodies buried in his rose garden.

I think we dodged a bullet, maybe more like a mortar round. I can't imagine what kind of a disaster a Romney presidency might have been.

6. Scary

The rethugs miscalculated during the primaries. They believed they could stretch the boundaries of the right to the extreme reaches with the unqualified candidates you list in your response. I suppose using the poor metaphor of hurricanes they dished up a bunch of Cat 5 storms for the electorate during the primaries, and tried to sell a Cat 3 (perhaps moving to a 5 if he got elected) Romney storm in the general. The fact he got 47% of the vote in this country is cold comfort to me. I don't like to imagine what his Presidency would have looked like--a teaparty dominated zombie fest where it's every man for himself, barricaded behind gated up neighborhoods dominated by a Supreme dedicated to the elimination of every constitutional right decreed since the days of Roosevelt.

The French had an answer for this type of society in 1794--the National Razor. I like our solution better--the ballot box.

I really hated Romney.My vote was equally for obama and against Romney.

and Trying to compare himself to Roosevelt and JFK when he answered critism of him being a rich guy by saying they too were rich.
COuld you Imagne Romney turing on wealthy like they viewed Roosevelt as doing or donating his presidential salary to charity like
JFK had done.
