http://jackpineradicals.com/boards/topic/wikileaks-bombshell-exposes-clinton-campaign-mainstream-media-rigged-polling/They think the fact that oversampling means Trump's blathering of rigged polls has been vindicated.
In reality, it just means focusing on specific demographics when doing an internal poll for a media buy.

(11,605 posts)They were convinced it was a conspiracy to oversample and overweight Hispanics so the polls would favor Obama. Anyone who knows the first thing about polling could have explained that an oversample is conducted to ensure a low enough margin of error for a particular group you want to know more about, and that taking an oversample is not the same thing as overweighting that group in the general population poll.

(4,742 posts)Obviously it is lost on them. If you poll 1,000 people but want to pull an individual snapshot of say Hispanics...a 200 or so sample isn't enough to parse down that demo. So you oversample the Hispanics to get maybe an N of 600 or 800. These people are DUM.

(27,813 posts)... they're combing through emails (that may or may not even be legit) and "interpreting" what single words and phrases "mean".
My fave JPR "find" was an email TO John Podesta from a woman saying how happy she was to have met him at a D.C. "speed dating" event. This immediately became "John Podesta cheats on his wife!"
It never occurred to any of them that if Podesta was lookin' for some strange, he wouldn't be doing it at a speed-dating event in D.C. - WHERE, OF COURSE, NO ONE WOULD KNOW WHO HE IS.
The Stupid is strong on that site.

(11,175 posts)Most of the people on JPR support Stein and lap up any criticism of Clinton. One difference between JPR and DU, however, is that both sides of the Clinton vs. Stein argument may be expressed there. I myself have posted about Bernie's endorsement of Clinton. In the specific thread discussing polling methodology that you make fun of, there is a lot of erroneous thinking, but there's also a good explanation of "oversampling".
People whose impression of JPR is formed from posts on DU should realize that it's a cross-section from the small end of the log.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)the post claiming "oversampling=election fraud" got 91 recommends.
Including the site owner.
One person--one--thought to google "oversampling" and post it. One.
With due respect, you're one of the few people over there that would be smart enough to breathe if it weren't a function of the autonomous nervous system.
That thread is an IQ test. And looks like around 95% of that site's membership flunked.
The bigger difference between DU and JPR is that DU isn't a hate-fueled orgy of Trump supporters with a few rational folks such as yourself trying to reason with the unthinking hordes.
The OP of that post is now telling everyone to hold out hope because Trump is citing O'Keefe and Project Veritas.
Not sure why you choose to evangelize to the irredeemables and deplorables, but your patience is admirable.

(11,175 posts)Four of my posts here have been removed lately (compared to zero on JPR), and for me to give a thorough and honest answer to your post would expose me to too much danger of drawing a bad jury.

(68,868 posts)I sympathize.
Hopefully after the general election you and those who share your commitment to rationality and basic human decency will return from that place.
Jim Lane
(11,175 posts)My guess is that both DU and JPR will carry on, and that the reduced diversity of opinion will mean that neither of them will be as valuable as DU was a year ago.
I'd like to see a reunification, but I'm sure that opinion on each site is overwhelmingly against it.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)It was never the case that intellectual diversity was intended to include Alex Jones, David Duke, Dead Fat Andy Breitbart, Steve Bannon, Rudy Giuliani, and Donald Trump.
After the general election, those authentically on the left will be welcome here to debate how to best govern the country.
Those who seek to inflict President Donald J. Trump on the communities of color, on women, on humanity, on the planet--were never of the left and do not belong at Democratic Underground and never did belong here. They belong at Stormfront, at Breitbart and the pending launch of Trump TV.
They are gone, and will never be forgiven.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)Meaningful policy discussions or incessant rage-fueled rants seeking to delegitimize her presidency?
Pretty clear the answer will be the latter, which is why JPR in a way must exist, to keep them out of here.
Jim Lane
(11,175 posts)JPR: a mixture of meaningful policy discussions and incessant rage-fueled rants
DU: a mixture of meaningful policy discussions and sycophantic uncritical praise
Obviously, I'm hoping that my predictions turn out to be wrong.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)There was quite a bit of criticism on policy grounds.
And there will be quite a bit of criticism of Clinton on policy grounds, right here. Guarantee it.
There will be next to zero support (you and maybe 2 other people) for any of her policies or proposals or actions or nominations at JPR, because the only purpose that site has is hating Hillary Clinton. People whose sole animating motivation is delegitimizing a President are incapable of rational discussions about that President.
Jim Lane

More college. More educators making decisions about education. Higher teacher pay (I am in NC). Teach critical thinking. Hell, teach regular thinking. Emphasize reading and writing.
That's how to Make America Great Again.
