What this election has demonstrated is that the country is loaded with racists and sexists

It wasn't that long ago that the Civil Rights Act was passed, and even after that, the country still wouldn't accept the Equal Rights Amendment, (ERA), to guarantee equal rights for women.

Now, not only are we faced with the disintegration of major elements in the Civil Rights Act, through SC rulings, but women's right to choose, equal pay for equal work, and a multitude of other Civil Rights issues are precariously at risk of being lost completely

Younger people tend to be more socially liberal. More young people are for Hillary than Trump by a very large margin. It's so bad that many local republicans try to block early voting near universities.

Young voters flee Donald Trump in what may be historic trouncing, poll shows

into a reformed conservative/libertarian party and a "deplorables" party, I wonder which would get the bigger share? I'm all too afraid it would be the latter.

The outcome I'm sort of hoping for now is that the GOP starts losing massively, and all the moderate conservatives flee and join the democratic party, until it becomes so overwhelming that the schism happens there, leaving us with a progressive party and a moderate-conservative party, with the hardcore racists and fascists relegated to a third-party rump status. But that probably won't happen... and if it did, it would certainly be a sad end to the legacy of Lincoln. I think the more likely outcome is that the Republicans will stick together despite being in permanent chaos and dysfunction, until they either come up with a charismatic post-racist leader, or finally manage to age out all the racists who keep making them lose elections.

40% of the nation are racist/sexist.
In a bad environment, Hitler could win here.
This speaks poorly of the nation that defeated Hitler.

if this was a lesser political office without the constant, intense spotlight/scrutiny attached to the American Presidency, we might have seen a different ending.

having a Timothy McVeigh come out of nowhere to cause a tragedy. Unless the folks investigating domestic terrorism are incompetent (certainly possible), they've accrued a significant database of disgruntled "patriots" for future reference.

this country has supported Trump as much as it has. He's not going to win..... but the nastiness may continue against Hillary. I alternate between being so happy and excited with Hillary, as a great woman, being elected ---- then depressed at the support the bigoted, vulgar, ignorant, misogynist still has massive support apparently. My county is having record turnout in early voting, but I do not know if it is going strongly for Hillary, or Trump. It has always been Republican in the past; I learned yesterday that our county was one of few in Texas that went for Goldwater against LBJ. I didn't live here then, so didn't know it.

I think she will get the sexist version of the Tea Party treatment that Obama got. And, we'll eventually hear, "Sexism was a thing of the past until Hillary got elected" like we get "Racism was gone from our country until Obama brought it back."

Let's spell it all out: the racists are the sexists who are the mass-shooters, terrorists and election thieves. They are the people who are advocating armed revolution, secession, and cancellation of the elections.

And THEY ARE REPRESENTED BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Things get really scary when you encounter female or minority Trumpers agreeing with the racists and sexists.

We need a Democratic Senate to confirm President Hillary's judges.
