2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBridgegate Defendants Facing 86 Years. Kelly will probably sing to mitigate sentence
Kelly's defense team has an interesting choice. They could not cooperate and lay the foundation for an appeal. Or they could have their client agree to testify against Christie in the hopes of getting a mitigated sentence. Kelly is facing life in prison (although highly unlikely she would get that type of time). Psychologically, though, when a client is facing life it tends to sharpen the focus a little and self-interest tends to dominate the discussion.
My feeling is that Mr. Christie just got fried today.

"It is typical when people are cooperating for that cooperation to be brought to the attention of the sentencing judge, and for the sentencing judge to take that into account," Fishman said.

She swears under oath to tell everything, but doesn't... to protect Christie.
Her adding more testimony, after the fact, would make it look like a conspiracy to protect Christie exists.

and some people that were way over her head.

(60,059 posts)Sorry because she is a single mother of 4 children - I would guess teens as she is 44.
However, I reject my own sympathy realizing that she was in a center of power and never stopped to think about the impact on people that this idiotic revenge on the mayor of Fort Lee would cause. In fact, the most stunning thing is that NO ONE - not her Baroni or Wildstein (and very possibly Christie) seemed to push back that this was a horrible idea that could have very serious negative consequences for innocent people. (Not to mention - punishing a Democratic mayor for not endorsing a Republican is strange in itself. Punishing him by punishing the regular citizens of that town and neighboring towns is a bizarre way to do this.
Did this mother of four even think of how this would impact little children who were taking school buses for their first week in school? Did she stop to think ... even on the second, third or fourth day when the impact on the town was known in great detail -- that an accident or a sudden illness could make getting to the hospital something where minutes could mean a huge amount to the outcome?
It is shocking that someone could fall from being so privileged that she was a top aide to a Governor - then touted as the most likely potential Republican nominee for President 2016 - where she would likely have had a possibility of continuing in his entourage had he (heaven forbid) have become President to someone likely to go to jail. Yet, it is people like her - no matter which party - who most need the consequences of thinking they are above the law ... and here, in a public position working against the interests of some of the people in the state.

(62,444 posts)That's where you go with that sort of thing... "Ms. Kelly is simply trying to blame others for her proven criminal plot."
