2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumLady Trump in Trouble
Nude photos of Melania Trump shot in 1995 were published into Rupert Murdochs New York Post this weekend, leading to serious questions about the Slovenian natives immigration status today. Its illegal to lie on any immigration forms, and regardless of her marriage to the maniacal Republican candidate for President, she could face serious consequences if ICE investigates further.
Only a tourist visa (B-1 or B-2 visas) would require someone to fly to their home country within three to six months, to maintain eligibility to return to the United States. POLITICO broke the story, to which Melania weakly responded that she had followed all laws
Visa fraud would call into question a green card application and subsequent citizenship application, said immigration lawyers thus raising questions about Melania Trumps legal status, even today, despite her marriage to a U.S. citizen.
But its actually a dead serious situation for Melania Trump, because immigration status can always be reviewed for truthfulness, even many years down the road, and the evidence isnt looking good.

(296,853 posts)"The details of Mrs. Trump's early paid modeling work in the U.S. emerged in the final days of a bitter presidential campaign in which her husband, Donald Trump, has taken a hard line on immigration laws and those who violate them. Trump has proposed broader use of the government's E-verify system allowing employers to check whether job applicants are authorized to work. He has noted that federal law prohibits illegally paying immigrants."
"Mrs. Trump, who received a green card in March 2001 and became a U.S. citizen in 2006, has always maintained that she arrived in the country legally and never violated the terms of her immigration status. During the presidential campaign, she has cited her story to defend her husband's hard line on immigration."

(27,813 posts)... Donald Trump has been exposed as a liar, a bigot, and a clueless idiot. He has mocked the disabled, bragged about grabbing pussies, has used donations to his "charitable foundation" to pay personal debts, has outsourced all of his brand-name merchandise to low-wage countries, hasn't paid federal income taxes in 18 years, has incited violence at his rallies - the list goes on.
So what's the best line of attack? Go after his wife.
This kind of discussion is beyond disappointing.

(27,813 posts)... throughout this entire campaign that DOESN'T go to "the heart of his hypocrisy".
The voters who have dismissed "grabbing pussies" as merely being "naughty language", who don't care that Trump doesn't pay taxes, who aren't phased by his constant lies, who don't care that he's a racist endorsed by the KKK are NOT going to be the least bit turned around by accusations against his wife.

(2,056 posts)wife is essentially an illegal immigrant is a powerful way to point out that hypocrisy. No one should actually try to give her the boot, though...that would be cruel to her son...just like what Trump wants to do to American born kids whose parents are not yet legal.

(3,635 posts)and wants to throw them out of the country if they didn't perfectly follow immigration laws.
Melania stands strongly and vocally with her husband's nativist and xenophobic position - so why should she/they be exempt from the standards they're holding (mostly PoC immigrants) to?
Of course, I'm not advocating we throw her out, but the media must call out this hypocrisy.
It will change the narrative, and put the heat back on them, and get the emails/Comey shit off the news.

(27,813 posts)... hasn't called out Trump's hypocrisy yet - I don't think that's going to change over the next 72 hours.
I'll all in with throwing everything at Trump right up to end - but making his wife's status an issue is pretty much a non-starter at this juncture.
Trump's behaviour, statements, and general assholery are rich fare - his wife's immigration status is thin soup by comparison.
Let's focus on the faults of the man HRC is running against, not his wife's.

A pardon could boost the story in the news cycle. "Obama offers pardon to Melania Trump so she may stay in US with Barron." It'll be especially helpful to her when she divorces the serial philanderer.

I can't imagine Mexicanos being too thrilled about this proof that melania broke this law that her husband's been bellowing about.
