2016 Postmortem

Good morning DU. I felt so isolated before..nobody to talk to about this horrible election and the unthinkable possibilities of the orange asshole winning. It seems that everyone (except my daughter and SIL) are voting or have voted for the unfathomable option. Anyhow, thank you. As always I awoke in a panic this morning, because of you all...I was able to put my fears aside after I checked out the Daily Kos, Upshot, and 538(the only one I knew about before ). Feeling a little less anxious. I'm hoping my state (Florida) can bring it home for Hillary and all of us.

Now, I am in Florida with still nobody to talk to. Husband is a Republican and all we do is argue about politics - which is not what I want.
Soooo, a big welcome to DU!

(58,785 posts)you're voting in Florida!
I OD'd on hard-core conservatives, especially social conservative bigots, a couple years ago and sought refuge here. Our close relatives are fortunately liberal to moderate, decent con, but we live in a county that's not only one of the most conservative in Georgia but the entire nation. Talking single digits here.

I am so hoping that the sun will be shining and the birds singing come Wednesday morning.
One thing about this board is that there are some super smart people here. Not are they all progressive, but they are also quite intelligent. It is like the best hangout ever.
If you love science, music, politics of course or just being informed here is the place to be.
And I know how you feel about your home state - I live in Iowa........

(10 posts)Greetings from Arizona! I live in a senior citizen community and I'm so sick of Trump-Pence signs all throughout like weeds, included at my own mother's house! I voted for Hillary and so did my sister and her husband. And yes I am so thankful for the DU community, a place of refuge for my worried mind. Please, America, bring some sanity back to our democracy Nov.8, and end the Republican obstruction and gridlock in our government by giving our new Madame President a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate!

(5,795 posts)I love the way the people on this site think critically and are often experts in the topic being discussed. I'm an expert on neuroscience, academic medicine, the NIH and DOD grant processes, migraine and traumatic brain injury, so I don't have many opportunities to help out, but I have DU has my home page. Whenever the news seems crazy, DU will help you sort it out.

DU has been a good place to hang for a long time. It's certainly what helped some of us get through - and outlast - bush/cheney.

(24,911 posts)I've been following the mail in and early voting returns in my county. So far, if Others split 50/50 (and I think they'll skew Democrat and vote third party leaving Trump with less than 50% of that group), the Dems vote for Secretary Clinton, and just 12% of Republicans cross the aisle, we've got it. And in a county that went solidly for Romney in 2012.
I'm not a professional statistician, but something in my gut tells me we're going bright Blue as a state this time. I think there are a lot of people assumed to be voting for the Toxic Tangerine who are keeping silent and voting Dem in the privacy of the voting booth.

(91 posts)I sometimes get sooooooo paranoid though. My county historically goes blue...but the stupid orange boy yard signs have me baffled....they are everywhere. I think Latinos are showing up big in early voting......gives me hope.

(24,911 posts)Last night I drove by and saw a young AA man and several women. My first thought was, "How much are they paying you all to sell your soul?" Baffled how any minority or female could support that nightmare.
There are easily 10 Trump signs to every 1 Clinton sign. Maybe even a higher ratio than that. And I still think Clinton is going to win my county. The signs smack of desperation to me.

(409 posts)The hatred that this election has brought right into the forefront, out from the shadows and into the open.. it just brought me straight to tears this morning. It's not just hate for Hillary, but it's hate for everyone that doesn't look like them, speak like them, or believe like them. It's hate for people that need a helping hand, hate for people that don't want to be told who they can and can't love. The scope of their hatred knows no bounds.
I was feeling overwhelmed thinking about it. But then I came to DU and I read your post, and it lifted my spirits, reminding me what a great community this is. There might be a lot of hatred and deplorables in the world, but there's also a lot of love, compassion, and goodness too. I see it all of the time when I come here. People coming together to support candidates and causes that would progress us further into the right direction, and rallying against those that would seek to take us backward. It makes a difference, and it gives me hope.

(11,062 posts)about the election. I transfer its meaning for the here and now. It has been a long election but I know that A CHANGE IS GOING TO COME for women, America, and the real majority of people who just want justice for all. So if they knock us down with words, A CHANGE IS GOING TO COME.

(24,245 posts)When i turn on the tv and it's all anti-Hillary lies or they are showing one of the drumpf lie-athons that are the majority of the ads here in No. FL. I just get sick and can't take it. Here I can take a breath and not have to hear lies promoted as truth and the greatest criminal ever to run for president, who's every utterance is a lie and represents treachery to this country and it's workers shown as a reasonable candidate.

This is the site I rely on now. Thank you, one and all.

(3,093 posts)I work in Healthcare with people all over the country so I hear on a daily basis how mindless and damaging Obamacare is. Lot of conservative rants. Shoot even on my favorite sports team page there is endless droning on and on by conservative conspiracy theorists. Thank you for the injection of sanity and coherent thoughts.

(66,590 posts)I was away from DU for a while but I am back thank god during this horrible election period especially the republican choice for President. I remember Bush and Gore and how the Supreme Court handed Bush the Election. Then we got our President Barack Obama cool and calm for 8 years, and he didn't have a silver spoon in his mouth either.
But thank you DU I still see posters names that I remember from the Bush era. DU is my refuge too so nice to be with like minded people. You guys just take the edge off and say don't panic.
Again, this election we will be making history nothing wrong voting for a qualified woman who knows her stuff.
I come here before I turn the TV on, you guys are so much better for the truth and my sanity!!!!

(11,833 posts)Many of us do. I can't imagine what it must be like, being surrounded by non-liberals. Ugh!
Most of my friends already voted for Hillary. We all do what we can. For me it's been driving some of the apathetic ones to vote.
Hoping Florida can help bring it home for Hillary too. We'll still like you regardless of where you live.
Welcome to Democratic Underground. Have fun!

(15,055 posts)I'm also very appreciative of the quick removal of pro-Republican posts here!
I've long felt that everyone deserves a voice, but so much of the internet has been overrun with their lies and hate-speech that I truly appreciate the relative refuge from it here!
Who knows how much of that crap comes from Russian trolls and bots too?
