2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIT'S A HOAX!!! DOJ is not accepting phone calls to decide about auditing election results.
From the Washington Post:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/11/22/the-department-of-justice-is-not-going-to-conduct-a-vote-audit-based-on-your-phoned-in-outrage/?utm_term=.a701fd0dab8d
For supporters of Hillary Clinton, the post circulating on Facebook and Reddit offers hope. The Justice Department, it claims, is tallying calls from people who want an audit of the 2016 election. And given the small margins that Donald Trump won by in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, a shift of about 55,000 votes is all that would be needed to change the outcome.
The problem is, its bogus. The Justice Department doesnt count up calls to determine whether it should launch an investigation. And they will not initiate a national audit or force particular states to recount their results based on the volume of outrage they receive from voters.
The Justice Department does not tally the number of callers to determine whether federal action is warranted, department spokesman David Jacobs said in a statement. Investigatory decisions are based solely on the facts and evidence as they relate to the federal statutes the department enforces.

(27,800 posts)maybe it will at least bug them enough that they'll consider doing something. Doesn't it matter that the citizenry the election process is designed to protect is outraged?

And regardless of what they say to free up their phone lines, if twenty million people call, do you really think that will not influence them to look into the story? I guarantee you it will.

(4,187 posts)It is not true that the DOJ "is not accepting phone calls." They are not "tallying" the number of callers, but that is not the same as "not accepting phone calls". Moreover, even if they don't carefully tally the number of calls, a large number of calls will not fail to make an impression. The people have a right to demand that their votes be counted. Otherwise, we cannot claim that this is a democracy.
