2008 Barack Obama would not be surprised by Trump's win.

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Those communities did not regenerate under the Obama administration either, and that was a big factor in the election.

Trump will now face the same pressures, and he'll undoubtedly fail to bring jobs back to these places.

At some point someone will have to figure this shit out. It's getting dangerous to have vast swaths of the country degenerate into blight and dystopia.

And we need to stress education to young people in these areas whether it is getting a degree or learning a trade. There aren't many jobs left you can walk into without an education now and there are going to be even fewer going forward.

"Hey, we don't have jobs for you, but we are going to put everyone on welfare!"

Not going to fly.

The key is figuring out how to bring back good jobs.

If Trump's pick for Education Secretary is true, education in these areas will lessen not increase!

Unless her brother, Erik Prince is looking for mercenary recruits, then those young people will be taught how to kill other people, to include torture and rape!!!

because of the Hand Writing On the Wall,I look at the Region I grew up in. The Region was very Liberal until post Vietnam War. Now it is Ultra Conservative and struggling with poverty and drug issues. In a Conversation with a friend who still lives there, asked the question, just what can someone do to revitalize the Region, his answer, who the heck would build some type of manufacturing or skill based business when you are a Hundred miles from nowhere.

In that statement, one can put that scenario in many of the Upper Midwest States. If you do not have a viable infrastructure,it is a non workable situation.

invest in Regions with make work projects that will last at least for one Generation until some type of Wiget Manufacturing of usable Tech operation. Has to be Socialist Solution to a Privatized Night Mare.

With Trump and his group of outlaws, this is not going to happen.

MASSIVE infrastructure programs, basically on the scale of what China is trying to do (and for the same reason, people don't realize that regime is *barely* hanging on), new roads, industrial and passenger rail transit to and from rural communities, repair and renovation of vital infrastructure, massive expansion of internet service.

If I wanted to put that into a concrete reality, I should be able to hop on a train in L'Enfant Plaza in DC, take that train through Mountain Lake Park, Maryland, Charleston, West VA, Wilmington, Ohio, and end up in Chicago Illinois, all the while being able to have free, stable Wi-Fi the entire trip.
