Apparently scrambling for votes on their alternative to a fiscal cliff deal - known as Plan B - House Republicans late Wednesday were considering expanding the scope of their tax cut extension measure to include spending cuts.

The measure, according to GOP sources, would be modified in an effort to win support from Republicans who were concerned the extension without spending cuts was a net tax increase. Plan B was initially advanced by House Speaker John Boehner as a method to ensure the GOP is not connected with a middle class tax increase if a fiscal cliff deal is not reached.

The House was set to vote on two measures Thursday: Plan B, as well as a proposal with President Barack Obama original position that the Bush-era tax breaks be extended only on household income under $250,000.

The White House on Wednesday threatened to veto the Boehner's Plan B proposal.

TV newscasters think. They are paid enough to live very comfortably for the rest of their lives.

No one ever thinks about how quickly fortune can change, how quickly one illness or job loss can devastate someone financially. We tend to be overly optimistic when we are young. We think that other people are just whining. They aren't. But it takes a lot of maturity to understand what an important role luck plays in your financial well being.

Rachel is a great person, but she is still quite young. That shows sometimes. Same for Obama.

So far, Obama really hasn't had any big personal setbacks. As sure as he is alive, and because he is human, they will come, hopefully later and hopefully not to difficult, but they will come. That's true for every one of us.

That is why we need Social Security, SSI, Medicare and Medicaid as well as food stamps. They help those of us who drew the unlucky cards.
