Related: About this forumShould the penalty for treason be death ?
Treason is in many parts of the world and the United States a capitol crime, which means that it is at least possible to receive the death penalty. This is why I'm hesitant to characterize an action as Treason (also back in the 2000s under Bush many of his supporters argued that Liberals should be tried for Treason for "giving aid and comfort to the enemy" and they seemed pretty comfortable with the implications that that would lead to executions).
But should Treason be a capital crime in general (without referring to any specific politicians who might be ruining out country as we speak).

No, Treason is serious business, but it should not be a capital crime (although other crimes should be).

No, Treason is serious business, but it should not be a capital crime, because there should be no capital crimes.

(82,937 posts)But the death penalty is such a mess that it would be better to halt all executions until it gets sorted out.
I'm OK completely eliminating it but I understand why people want it for certain offenses. It's a tough issue.
