25. And he lied about the rust belt white males.

His ideas have been totally debunked, or haven't you noticed?

The economy had nothing to do with their votes. Bigotry, especially sexism, was the reason these guys voted for Trump.

Moore is basically a comic type, with his self-indulgent books and movies employing humorous touches. He is not a serious thinker or analyst.

In other words, he is just another Hollywood type who should not be taken seriously, like Susan Sarandon.

30. The economy has everything to do with the entrenchment of that bigotry. People revile welfare and

immigrants BECAUSE they think these things are hurting their way of life. That is so far off the mark that it daunting to figure out how to get them on the mark, but you're insistence that racism isn't largely a component of social engineering, in large part for somebody's economic reasons, is just not correct.

Give them a truthful economic message. Give them one that erodes their fears of things they shouldn't be afraid of and show them the face of their actual enemy. Not only does that process do some of the dismantling of racism in itself, it takes away that limbic brain reaction to talking about race and racism. It's no longer a matter of survival to cling to those racist notions.

Ran for public office and won as a teenager. Started a progressive magazine in Flint. Fought General Motors. I would hardly call him a Hollywood "type."

37. He didn't last long in that MJ gig. Four months to be exact. Hardly a journalism career.

I know all about him. He never was an effective activist pre-Hollywood.

Nobody had heard of him until his self-indulgent documentaries came to the fore, beginning with Roger and Me. These flicks were his ticket to fame and fortune.

I of course would love to hear about all of your work helping promote liberal causes. What rubbish it is to spend more energy attacking Our allies than you spend attacking the right -- are there not enough of them to keep you busy?

3. I first want to save anti-Trump voters. Trump voters need to learn something.

They need to learn that their votes have consequences.

I do have a little sympathy for them, but very little.

Group of Trump voters here are starting to figure out that they may lose their disability, medicaid/Obamacare, etc., etc.

36. I'm tired of being asked to clean up the stupid

It happens every time. They vote against their own interest, and we are asked to educate them. You can't educate people who don't want to be educated. I have ZERO sympathy for Trump voters. If they regret their votes, they need to learn that they have to live with their choice. That may sound harsh, but honestly, I'm tired of covering for them.

Unfortunately, the rest of us have to live with their consequences too.

you don't teach your children to be careful in traffic by letting them play marbles on the freeway.

10. No saving Trump

voters from Trump without them having to suffer through Trump first.
There is a part of me that thinks it would be best if social security were privatized, medicare turned into a voucher system etc.I would not want that to be permanent though. If it could only be limited too just republican voters, but it can't. Maybe that's what it is going to take for these people to finally learn. Seems a common theme with Trump and republican voters in general when asked about the destruction of safety nets etc. is to say they wont really do that. Seriously how long have republicans been threatening social security. Even tried to privatize social security the last time a republican was in the white house and still senior citizens continue to vote overwhelming republican as long I can remember. I know there are many senior citizens who don't vote republican who get offended when this demographic fact is pointed out. I'm not talking about them, but the majority of seniors that cast their votes for republicans.

Maybe they finally need to lose something to learn something, but then again maybe not. Maybe the republican lie machine can convince them that Democrats control the congress and senate and blame us when republicans destroy their safety net.

13. Nope. Elections have consequences. nt.

I know that is a terrible thing to say, but we have been warning about the consequences of voting for the current anti-entitlement republican agenda for the last 8 years. It is time to let those that vote for it against their own best interest to suffer the consequences. While we must mitigate the damage so that the country is salvageable in 4 years, the cycle of Dems building up an economy to only have it torn down by Republicans needs to end. Trump's going to do just that while lining his pockets.

20. People are going to

die because they voted the wrong way,and people who didn't vote the wrong way are going to die, because another group of people voted the wrong way. Do they deserve to die, because of it? No,but that is still the reality situation once the GOP starts cutting safety nets and messing with health care. Those that survive through what is likely to happen need to learn a lesson going forward so fewer people die for someone voting the wrong way in the future.

29. The reality of the situation is that we are all in this together regardless of how we voted.

Last edited Sat Dec 24, 2016, 04:49 PM - Edit history (1)

The true color of a persons character really isnt how they vote or their politics, but what they do when faced with standing up for their fellow person. If you voted the right way but refuse to house somebody who will certainly die, then your true colors are shown. If you voted the wrong way but stand up for a hundred people who may face chambers, then you have vindicated yourself far beyond any vote you can make. Not that those things will happen, but a vote is nothing compared to how you react when faced with the deepest of moral crises.

Elections have consequences. And it's not like the Dems are in any kind of position to save them from themselves anyway.

Sadly, many Trump voters are ignorant (Moore even politely said that) and easily manipulated.

Democrats need to learn how to market their message and stick to that narrative.

19. From the seldom heard part of Hillary's "basket of deplorables" speech:

...but that other basket of people are people who feel that the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they're just desperate for change. It doesn't really even matter where it comes from. They don't buy everything he says, but he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won't wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they're in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well."

If, instead of apologizing for this(!), she had said something along the lines of, 'Yes, some of Trumps supporters are deplorable, but what I was trying to get at was that we need to reach out to the other half who feel left behind in an economy where the income & wealth is concentrated in the upper echelons!'

She should have hammered that point - that she wants to reach out to the other half (and everyone who is marginalized by the system) - loudly & proudly.

Apologizing for the remark makes no sense. If you believe, as is verifiable that roughly half of his supporters are racist, or homophobic, or xenophobic, whatever-phobic; then why would you want to apologize for calling them what they are?

The sad thing is that she didn't say this to her rank & file run-of-the-mill supporters, it was said at a high dollar fundraiser in NYC, attended by many celebrities, with ticket prices starting at $1200.

"And what I hope is that in addition to your extraordinary generosity, you will go to our website, hillaryclinton.com, or text to join at 47246 to see how else you can get involved."

WaPo says her campaign & the party and joint fundraisers spent $1.2 billion, I'm struggling to see what good it did.

21. No Trump voters have to learn a lesson. If you save them then Trump will blame it all on you

for messing with his successful program.

It is best to just say "I would not do that" then let Trump go down the road all by himself.

22. most important part of MM interview is we need to form rapid response teams

i.e. EVERY DEM concerned about what Trump is doing should have a team of 5-10 friends who will immediately put out FB and other soc media calls for action and let others know what's going on to resist.

MM says what will happen will make our heads spin with repugs in total control of House, Senate, presidency and SCOTUS.
