Unlike GOPers, Dems are generally class acts.

Much as I - as a private citizen - can boycott and protest events such as the inauguration of a POS like Trump, it is customary for politicians on both sides of the aisle to show respect.

Hillary as the losing candidate (only due to the archaic EC and NOT by popular will) could possibly have been excused for not attending. But she was also First Lady during Bill Clinton's administration and is no doubt attending in that capacity.

As usual, whatever Hillary does, she will be - IMO unfairly - pilloried to high heaven, most especially by those who hate her and always have. But she is taking the high road and she and other Democrats in attendance are also showing solidarity with outgoing President Barack Obama.

Those who chose to criticize her actions can go f*ck themselves! The loudest among them likely never voted for her in any event.

Not because of "normalization." The man is going to be president whether she goes or not. But given the way he treated her and that he continues to make abusive comments about her, I don't know how she can stomach it.

Then I think of the Rockettes and choir singers that left or risked their jobs to say no to attending.
I feel dismayed over it.

"Constructively criticizing" President Obama and the Clintons is a DU specialty, and no opportunity should be missed. President Carter usually gets a pass, but I don't think there is as much satisfaction beating up an elder statesman.

Showing respect for the peaceful transition of the office is not remotely the same as showing respect for the person holding that office, but that nuance can be lost in the rush to condemn. In my opinion, the presence of the former Presidents, including the detested Bush, is a powerful statement that the American Presidency will survive no matter who occupies the seat at the present time. I applaud their class and grace, as well as their demonstrated love of our country and faith that over time rational thinking will prevail. Giving trump the middle finger might give momentary pleasure to some, but it would greatly diminish the position that our former Presidents hold.

17. If the Clinton's plan to remain active in politics attending the event is the smart choice.

By not attending they are cutting off not only themselves, but the Clinton Foundation as well from mainstream political engagements. Not attending also sends a message of radical opposition to Trump, something we see here on DU but is probably not in the character of the Clinton's.
