Dean on a 2016 run: 'Probably not, but we'll see'...

Howard Dean, the former Vermont governor and unsuccessful 2004 presidential candidate, said Thursday he is not ruling out another run for the White House in 2016, but doesn’t expect to be a candidate.

“As they say, the second time around you have to see a psychiatrist first,” Dean quipped. “The first time you don’t know what you’re getting into.”

Dean added, “I think probably not, but we’ll see.”

He's one hell of an energetic 64, but he himself said that younger blood was needed at the top. If he decides to run, it would only be because he feels there is a real vacuum in the roster of potential candidates, and I think we have too much potential talent there to declare a vacuum unless a lot of it drops out. If Hillary runs, you won't hear a peep out of Howard, and I think if O'Malley makes no big mistakes, Howard wouldn't even consider challenging him. I would still love to see Howard retake the DNC chairmanship, though, or even run for Senate if Pat Leahy retires. Leahy will be 76 in 2016, which is not too old to go for another term.

He's also the first to admit it.

In the meantime, he has been one of the most successful chairmen of the DNC there has ever been, and was behind the scenes at more successful campaigns for Democrats than anyone in the last 15 years. He was also helpful in organizing several progressive parties abroad, and has had LOTS of media experience and exposure. He knows the ropes and the rules now. He had Joe Trippi then, and Trippi was useless.

THAT's why he'd be better today. But he's still not interested unless the rest of our A team collapses, and he just doesn't see that happening at this point (nor do I). I doubt Judy would be thrilled either.

...and mobilized the liberal-progressive base of the Democratic Party. This resulted in him being elected Chairman of the Democratic Party during which he helped lead Democrats to majorities in both houses of Congress and the Presidency.
