Related: About this forumGOP sensitivity training takes place in room named for plantation
The House GOP is learning about successful communication with minorities and women" at the Burwell Plantation.
The Burwell family of Virginia were among the First Families of Virginia in the Colony of Virginia. They also happened to own several plantations and slaves.
So naturally the GOP would host lawmakers eager to learn about successful communication with minorities and women in a room named for those plantations.

(31,849 posts)1. That reminds me of ...
a discussion I had, a decade ago, with a co-worker. We worked at a Civil Rights organization. She came back from a conference in S.C., and was talking excitedly about the conference; but more so about her accommodations ... she stayed at a Bed and Breakfast located on the grounds of a plantation that provided as a additional revenue stream, guided tours of the refurbished slave quaters, complete with character actors.
She couldn't understand why is was less than impressed and, generally, unapproving.

For them, it's never about their ideas, it's always about branding. How about being open and honest, repubs, and let the chips fall where they may?
