He is retiring once his term is up, and will be replaced in an election. The voters get to decide this one.

Our strongest was Roy Barnes running against a corrupt ex- congressman and he got wiped out. There are no more Sam Nunns or Jimmie Carter's in Georga. The last senate race the repug had no competition. Michael Thurmond got 39% of the vote.

I get my TV from Georgia, and am well aware of Georgia politics. Not that any of this matters to my point. The voters will still decide Suxby's replacement.

If a teabagger makes Akin-like comments, and there's a solid Democrat running, it could be a close race. Obama got 46% in Georgia in 2012, which is not a bad showing at all for the deep south. The problem that any Democrat has, is getting that extra 4% to get to 50%+1. Because it has to come almost entirely from white voters, and white southerners are one of the worst demographics for Democrats these days.

against Grover and deciding that deficits does matter to this country but now he is retiring. Afraid of being primaried?? Another R being pushed out -- so I guess that means Saxby is in the same class of Reagan --
a RINO??

That way he can make the big bucks. I have to laugh at this asshole. He claims he is retiring because he's sick of nothing getting done. What a hoot! He should look in the damn mirror!

There's no way we should nominate a liberal, because he or she will lose. We need to nominate someone like Blanche Lincoln. Don't like what I have to say? Fine, then Rand Paul 2 gets elected.

For all of Blanche Lincoln's moderation, she still lost in a landslide in 2010. Any Democrat will need to be conservative on some issues, for sure. But more than anything, they need the money to win, and they need a weak opponent.

Reed is the current mayor of Atlanta, AA and very popular. He would be my choice.

Scott Holcomb has big potential but he may be too new to the legislature......and a bit too centrist for my taste.

There are virtually no Democrats left in Georgia. The only prominent Democrats are African-Americans who cannot win a statewide race at this time (in ten years, that may be different). The Rethugs have had an iron-grip on this state ever since 2001 when the then-Democratic legislature and Democratic governor voted to remove the confederate emblem from the state flag (the cross covered two-thirds of the entire banner!).

This state is quickly falling towards the Alabama-Mississippi level.

Bill won Georgia in one of his elections.

But he can only do so much - the Democrats need to pick a solid candidate that Bill can get behind.
