(23,796 posts)So he's back, but he's not yet collapsed completely in SC. Today is the poll that counts, though.
I would say the President would only be so lucky to draw Newt in the general, but at this point, with this field of nominees, he'd be lucky with any of them.

(18,964 posts)Remember we thought some of those Tea-Party Candidates were too far out there in the ozone to be elected. We gave the electorate credit for being "too smart" to elect them....oops.
The Republican primaries have been like watching a gory horror movie to me. At first it's too awful to watch. Had to turn it off. But the more it played out the more de-sensitized you became and pretty soon, all the horror of their positions was gone.
Pretty soon Repealing Child Labor Laws was "mainstream political discourse".
So was rampant racism..the type I have not seen since my childhood in the 50's.
So was going to war or at least bombing the crap out of anybody who disagreed with us.
Amazingly....it became mainstream to talk about "Obama's Recession" and his "Food Stamp Presidency"...completely ignoring history and facts and creating this fantasy world where the faithful of the Tea/Republican/Libertarian parties could comfortably gather and revel comfortably in their prejudices.
In short...they've created a fantasy world for voters that doesn't make it impossible to elect one of these idiots over that hated black man in the White House....the "Hated Black" man they created out of thin air.
