This Benghazi story smells and I am highly suspious of it. Almost like it was set up.

I remember the day after the attack and Romney was out so quick to attack the President before even the CIA or the State Department could investigate what happened. The talking points about the President not saying it was an an act of terror (when he said it) and today the newest talking points going around reich wing world debating the semantics of using terror or terrorism (as if there is a big difference).

Today I heard on Randi Rhodes a woman saying McCain was in Libya last year and was at Benghazi. If the security was so bad why didn't he speak up when he came back and raise his concerns about the security there? So I decided to do a little research and came up with is "gem"

"John McCain is dying to help Mitt Romney. But is his advice wanted? Howard Kurtz reports exclusively on the 2008 nominee’s failed efforts to counsel Romney, his frustration at a behind-the-scenes role in the campaign—and his damning faint praise for Romney’s foreign-policy instincts."

"For the moment, McCain is something of a caged lion, circling his circumscribed world, using vacation breaks to jet off to foreign-policy hotspots. Early this month, McCain was in Tripoli, where he watched 200,000 flag-waving people pour into the streets to cheer Libya’s first democratic election in four decades. Many approached him, some wearing T-shirts bearing pictures of slain relatives, to thank him for his push for U.S. airstrikes against Muammar Gaddafi’s regime. “John likes a good fight,” says his Senate pal Joe Lieberman. “He likes being in the arena.”

What else was McCain doing in Libya to help Romney?

I am not an investigative reporter but some smart person could really make a reporting cred for themselves if they are able to connect the dots.

All these fake scandals trying to tear down this President instead of trying to get the economy going, jobs, helping the poor and our vets makes me sick and disgusted with the republican party to the point that I think they are the real enemies of America not Al Quaida.

The whole video thing was a part of it. I don't even care if someone thinks I'm a nut. As you say, McCain was up to his neck in Libya, Romney was all over it like he knew it was coming.

If he REALLY knew ahead of time, I would hope that he would have helped Obama stop it - even if it meant no one ever knew. But, going with the assumptions -

If he and staff had the luxury of time, they would have written a wonderful statement that first of all led the nation in morning the loss - as Obama and Clinton did the next day. In addition, he could have made embassy security an issue - one that would be pretty difficult as the Republicans cut the budget.

The effort to cover up the role of the CIA in the events resulting in the attack on the two US government facilities in Benghazi, however, demonstrates that something important is at stake and worth investigating.

But I have always thought something wasn't right. The timing, Romney and how fast he came out. There has been times with the republicans they set things up. Iran hostage crisis with Reagan, Iran contra because congress wouldn't give funding to Reagan and don't get me started on the wmd's.

The democrats are not devious like the republicans.

LBJ faked a made up attack on a U.S. destroyer in the Gulf of Tonkin. That led to Congress giving LBJ the authority to start a war which killed 55,000 Americans and countless Vietnamese needlessly.

I think they should investigate why those militia's suddenly left the area and let the assailants complete their mission? It was reported, the real time video shows exactly this. Shouldn't there be questions asked to the appointed President of Libya why those people left the building unprotected while the Ambassador was in the area? It was coordinated and there hasn't been any arrests even though the Republicans say they know who did it. If they know who exactly did it, including Mr Hicks, then why aren't they arresting the people in this group they pointed fingers at? Why isn't the President of Libya arresting them? Those seems to be the questions ignored?

For many reasons. Also the groups which carried out the attacks are still openly active in Libya. There has been no retaliation whatsoever against them. We are all aware we have drones which can take out people. Why haven't we used them? If we do not respond to the murder of an ambassador it will be repeated over and over.

I'll let the CT in me come out a little ...

From Day 3, the gop (and some DUers) have had resident Obama as Jimmy Carter 2.0.

What single thing connects the Carter defeat in the 1980, and the anticipated defeat of President Obama in 2012?

Hint: It begins with an "E"and has a fish in it. And a lot of folks thought both stank

I guess since it worked in 1980, "they" decided to try it again.

...you're saying that the Republicans personally orchestrated the 1979 storming of the U.S. Embassy in Teheran, Iran as well as the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya? Give me a break.

Conspiracy theorists are a bunch of paranoid lunatics. Remember the birthers and the moon-landing deniers? Don't sink to their level. Those nutjobs belong on the right, not here.

like a hand grenade to try to stir things up in the ME on or around 9/11 so that they could then turn around and blame President Obama for not being able to handle the resulting chaos effectively, which is kind of what they have been doing with Benghazi. I don't know that they necessarily knew exactly what would happen but figured that there would be *something* that they could attack President Obama for being "weak" on.
