Former RNC chairman Steele mulls Maryland gubernatorial bid

Former RNC chairman Steele mulls Maryland gubernatorial bid

Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is considering running for governor in his home state of Maryland.

"We're looking at it," Steele told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd on Monday. "You're going take a look at the numbers. Maryland's a tough state, there are a lot of challenges there."

It’s the second such comment Steele has made recently. Last week, The Daily Caller reported on a radio interview in which Steele said he was “looking at it.”

“I’m looking at it,” Steele said on WMAL radio. “We’ll see what the numbers tell us.”

I've seen him on a lot of TV shows and he doesn't seem like the prototypical loudmouthed ignorant GOP douchebag.

He has a bunch of crazy ideas to be sure but sometimes I get the feeling he's just mouthing the words and his heart really isn't in it.

He's actually kind of likeable even though he'd make a shitty governor.

Edit: Apparently O'Malley's endorsing the current Lt. Gov. You'd think I'd know these things.

(I) is a very-tough in MD, it's nearly impossible to get a candidate or question on the ballot by petition. There were something like 9 serious ballot-question petitions circulating in MD for November including one to repeal the new gun control law and one to reinstate capital punishment. They all failed.

Martin O’Malley, is widely viewed as a potential Democratic presidential nominee in 2016. He will have reached his term limit in 2014.

You don't see all of the Steele absurdity because you don't live here...when he was on the ticket with Bob Ehrlich he went to Prince George's County to try to "connect with the brothers" on conservative values. The local news media covered it and interviewed some kid there about it (you know, crowd reaction): "That dude is white! He just don't know it!" I was in college or just out...I don't remember...living just off campus. It was the meme of my housemates for weeks.

The whole campaign was like that. White people fawning over Steele because he reflected how the party could be multicultural, black people being like "Who's this dude? He's seriously offensive."

Nobody does black guy out of touch with the black community because he's secretly a racist like Michael Steele does black guy out of touch with the black community because he's secretly a racist. It wouldn't be quite so obvious if he wasn't totally oblivious to it and his impression of what it means to be a minority wasn't a stereotype.

I hope he runs, at his rate, he'll probably announce in front of overdressed go-go dancers mistaking that for reflective of local go-go music culture. (One has nothing to do with the other.)
