Anyone can get media attention by putting one out at this point. And they're pretty much all shite.

dictatorship for example might use to gather and imprison political prisoners..
But shouldn’t the real question be, is how a country allowed itself to get itself in that position in the first place? Not paying attention is a big factor...Our country is good at that..

Liberals are too reasonable and civil. Progressives don't have an equivalent of foam-mouthed propagandists like Beck, El Rushbo, Levin, Savage, Coulter, etc. The closest might be Bill Maher, but he doesn't whip up the frenzy of a base of knee-jerk reactionaries as the aforementioned do. Nor does he adhere to their patented use of distortions and partial truths (some type of "ends justify the means" rationale among CON-servatives, I can only assume). So, while there was an equally outraged sentiment among the public in general in the wake of the 2001 PATRIOT Act which created this situation, it wasn't manufactured by a well-oiled propaganda machine and a captive audience flush with hatred yet bereft of critical thinking. As a result, the legitimate questions raised in response to an unprecedented affront to civil liberties fell upon the ears of indifference. The general populace was ultimately more engrossed by the ethical dilemmas of "Joe Millionaire", and, before we knew it, a statue of Saddam Hussein was being toppled in Baghdad and the horrors of two consenting adults with similar genitalia enjoying the same benefits as other U.S. citizens became the flavor of the day.

Call out the left on the least bit of exaggeration, Demagoguery, patented use of distortions, partial truths or Hyperbole. They have much larger amplifiers, and places to do this with. Ergo Progressives don't have an equivalent of foam-mouthed propagandists. I blame Today, Journalist and use of the Governmental Propagandist.

when it comes to promoting scandals. After all of the over-the-top lunacy and hyperventilating over almost *everything* to try to destroy or discredit President Obama since he was first elected, I'm surprised that anybody pays much attention to anything that they say nowadays. Of course, why anybody should take them seriously after the Clinton years and then all of the really crazy stuff (9/11 incompetence/negligence, torture, Iraq, Katrina) that happened during the Bush/Cheney "lost years" is beyond me, frankly........
