Today's NSA Brought to You By a Decade of Republican Fear-Mongering

Uh-huh. Yeah. Rewind several years to 2007 and 2008 when Congress and the Bush administration passed the Protect America Act, along with the FISA Amendments of 2008. The entire Republican establishment was lined up in jingoistic lockstep behind the Bush administration's efforts to eavesdrop without warrants and spent countless hours both scaring their listeners to death while shaming liberals and the Democratic Party over any and all resistance in codifying the administration's illegal covert wiretapping.

But as we've learned time and time again, selective amnesia doesn't seem to permeate the zero barrier between January 19, 2009 and January 20, 2009, so let's take a look at some history, shall we? Yep. Here goes...

If Bush said the Patriot Act was good, all of the GOP said the Patrot Act was good.

Seems there are plenty here on DU that got suckered again... never underestimate the American public when being herded into fear.

Especially in the name of "Patriotism".

4. And now Democrats are demanding we march in jingoistic lockstep to keep it going.

I don't remember them having to shame all that many Democrats. I remember a handful being branded as terrist sympamathizers and the rest being pretty keen on it with some even joining in on the shaming. Mostly the ones that are horrible racists for being against it now are the ones that were heroes for being against it then.

Selective amnesia includes forgetting all those Democrats that supported this horseshit when it was getting off the ground.

Today's NSA is brought to you by Republican fear-mongering and Democratic cowardice and/or collusion.

10. Don't leave out several decades of "Democrats are soft on defense" drum-thumping

The last time we tried to rein in overreach by the intelligence agencies, Democrats were accused of gutting our defenses and unilateral disarmament.

And the generation of young up-and-comers who most sharply felt the burn of all that is the one that is now in charge of the party.
