2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary Is the Strongest Non-Incumbent Ever
On the Democratic side, the big question is what does Hillary Clinton do. She is, New York Times polling analyst Nate Silver said last night at the Aspen Ideas Festival, in an extremely strong position as a primary candidate -- and that means she can get away with waiting to declare longer than some others. But if she waits too long to say she'll run, she won't be able to clear the field of competitors. And if she waits too long to say she won't run, she could potentially hurt the prospects of whoever the future Democratic nominee is, since less experienced and well-connected candidates will need more time to polish their performances on the stump and raise money and build a national campaign.

(22,000 posts)I think she needs to continue to downplay the idea until after the mid-terms and have a good idea whether she is going to do it or not.

(40 posts)I hope she does not win the Democratic primary, I fear that the Republicans have so much material on her that it will be a never ending commercial about her checkered past and time as Sec of State. We need new blood after Obama, eight years of any President creates a push back against that political party and anyone associated with that administration.

(3,163 posts)Sure, she doesn't hold the title of President, but there is no one in Washington who is more thoroughly establishment than she is. She has a picture of the White House tattooed on her butt, for heaven's sake. Between her husband and Obama she's been in that place longer than anyone in history. Enough already.
If she becomes president we need to start grooming Jenna Bush, and then Chelsea so that we can keep the Bush and Clinton Dynnasties going, and then we can restore the title of "Crown Prince" to this country.

I don't know whether Hillary wants to go through that ordeal again. But, to the chagrin of both the Right and the Left, I think that this time around if she runs she wins. After four years as SOS she has earned the respect of even some adversaries. Benghazi not withstanding, a manufactured RW scandal if there ever was one, I don't think that she would have as much of a difficulty in clenching the nomination. As for the general election, it will depend of the state of the economy in 2016 and the loony proposals of the Republicans. Although I believe that she's the candidate that the Republicans fear the most.
