In Less Than an Hour, I Signed Up for 'Obamacare' and Saved $300/month ($3,600/Year)

Well, that was easy. On Sunday, December 22, the day before the deadline for January 2014 insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA or "Obamacare&quot , I signed up without problem.

I used the California exchange website, it took me less than an hour, I'll be able to keep the same provider I had previously (and therefore, the same doctors), and I'll be saving almost exactly $300/month or $3,600/year.

Sounds good to me. I had no "glitches" along the way, at least to date, and the process was quite clear and simple.

I'm still trying. Had to restart the app, got to where I could select a plan, but none that I can afford have providers less than a 2 hours drive away.

I need to call that 800 number and see if they have any solutions. Other than that, I'm <this> close!

My helper's name was Osama.

I loved that part!

Maybe when I call I'll request him! TBH, I probably would have said something harmlessly inappropriate, like, "Are you serious??" or just started laughing.

Yeah, it seems the phone is going to be my best option. I just don't hear very well and have a crappy/ancient cell.

It was particularly helpful because I thought I knew what plan I wanted but Osama down-sold me into a Silver plan for less money and really the same benefits but I needed to check with my doctor's office.

I was able to create a second call with Osama on hold, then create a three way call and verify that my doc would be on that plan.

All done, and in about an hour, including time on hold.

My premium is going to be about $885/month lower than the COBRA plan I had with the same provider.

...getting that personal help seems to be saving people money.

I'm going for Bronze. Have been uninsurable for 13 years. Now, if I can get the plan I'm eligible for but with a provider in my area...less than $100/mo.

Are you going to save the money you saved and take a vacation? LOL! Thanks, Obama!

I'm seriously worried about my girlfriend, who has been having weird medical symptoms for a while now. I live in a deep red state and she's a student with little income and without insurance. The lowest I could find is over $200 a month, out of the range of either of us combined. She's also a single mom but STILL can't get Medicaid (apparently). She hasn't been able to see a doctor in a few years...I mean I guess we could pay out of pocket for a visit, but what about tests and such. GOP makes me want to puke and we're at a dead end.
