GOP Senator: Obama 'Doesn't Normally Like Calling Us'

TOM KLUDT – JANUARY 7, 2014, 6:33 AM EST

Just how adamant is President Obama about getting emergency unemployment benefits extended? He's talking to Republican senators on the phone.

Politico reported on Obama's phone calls to Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) to build GOP support for a bill to extend the benefits for three months, a telling sign that the President is serious.

“He doesn’t normally like calling us," Kirk said.

Obama's apparent aversion to the phone call has long annoyed the punditocracy. "Morning Joe" has been a reliable source of this line of criticism. Typical is it for host Joe Scarborough to assail Obama as someone who "just never reaches out.”

I cannot think anything more likely to get someone to talk to you than being intransigent, do-nothings who openly insult that person and their family ...

... Oh ... yes I can

Maybe if you shitheels didn't keep calling him a communist nazi traitor on the Sunday shows, he'd be more amenable to phone calls.

They are a bunch of little whiny bratty snots. They are behaving like petulant children of the highest order so now he HAS to lay down some discipline.

over not riding in front under Clinton? (Which was later shown to be yet another lie).

Seems to me that Obama's been far too eager to bow down to the Republican masters, it's kinda nice once in a while when he shows some backbone.

Rare, though it is.

If they ever pick up the phone and call the President? Seems to me like it cuts both ways (or should, anyway). If Repubs wanted to be reasonable and work things out I'm sure that President Obama would be more than happy to meet them halfway.

it indicates Obama actually wants the thing. On the other hand, I guess we don't know what he's offering in return...

because we must question what he does ... even when it's what we want and what he said he'd do.

Don't you ever get tired of your tired routine?

I mean, what's the point? They'll just tell you to fuck off, then brag to their sycophants about doing it.
