GOP House targets health care law; 67 Dems join in

AP foreign, Saturday January 11 2014

DONNA CASSATA

Associated Press= WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-led House voted overwhelmingly Friday to bolt new security requirements onto President Barack Obama's health care law, with 67 Democrats breaking ranks to join with the GOP. It was the first skirmish of what is certain to be a long and contentious election-year fight.

The vote was 291-122 with Republicans relentlessly focusing on "Obamacare," convinced that Americans' unease with the troubled law will translate into significant election gains in November. Dozens of Democrats, nervous about their re-election chances or their campaigns for other offices, voted for the GOP bill.

"Americans have the right to know if the president's health care law has put their personal information at risk, and today's bipartisan vote reflects that concern," said Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.

Among the Democrats joining the Republicans was Rep. Steve Israel of New York, the chairman of his party's campaign committee dedicated to electing Democrats.

It's not enough to just win seats. We need those seats filled with progressives, not conservatives masquerading as Democrats.

3rd Way, DINO, DLC, Any so-called Centralest, is not good enough. And has never been. Real, Actual, Liberal, Democrats are needed.
Anyone saying that any (D) is good enough, either does not know what they are talking about or are working for the opposition to destroy this country.
And don't forget the potential blackmail the NSA is capable of, with all that information they are unconstitutionally collecting and storing.
Can you say that this country is corrupt to the core? Why sure you can, 'cause it is.

I also don't trust this administration any longer when it comes to protecting the personal information of private citizens. Sure, "Several House Democrats said the measure was a GOP message bill designed to scare people away from enrolling in coverage" -- but what created the basis for that fear, if not a surveillance state and intelligence apparatus run amok, and a President who has turned a blind eye to that?

6. So you think that the NSA is now spying on people enrolling in the AFA? Good grief.

People have no problem putting all their business on the internet on websites like facebook or linkedin, or now even on Huffington Post. They have no problem with the fact that the free market and places like Target have caused their financial data to be exposed to potential thieves who could cause them real harm. But take a real risk and try to do something which hasn't been done before and which will make a real difference in peoples lives, and you can always count on a significant number of the Dems to scatter like cockroaches when the lights are turned on.

The Dems have always been spineless and afraid to stick up for their convictions which will always be their downfall. This bill was an unnecessary one which was designed to split the party as all these phony GOP issue votes have been.

should their info be compromised, and would support it being a legal requirement.

Everyone should support that.

What is the alternative?

a legal requirement to notify people if their personal info has been compromised. That should be.
